Wife want's to make trip from one state to another to VISIT HER relatives. OK! But she want's me to freakin drive her there and visit too. May as well go to GD f'n church.

See... I think the fishing trip sounds like a good idea!

I happen to love driving, so I'd probably tend to split the difference... Drive her to there, and then go fishing somewhere nearby for however many days/weeks she wants to visit, then drive her home.

Present it as "Letting you connect with your family and have some good quality time with them, without having to worry about my stress level going through the roof and no one having any fun."

LOL... Used to do that with my Ex & his family. He'd visit (why, god alone knows), I'd take zeh kiddo and we'd go road tripping & swimming & doing photography stuff in about a 200mi radius (no way in hell was I leaving my kid with my ex's family. Long story, all ugly). <Chuckling>, I presented it to my ex as "You can visit and I won't have to kill anyone" ;) That was my condition on driving out there. I'll drive. But I won't stay. Period. On the upside, everyone on the Rez totally got why I was drifting around, and wouldn't let my kid be around my inlaws. ((Hey for a white chick, you aren't too dumb, are ya? Yah, I'll pass the word. You & the boy are welcome around.)) Seriously not good people my former inlaws. And coming from me that's saying a lot.

For me, I love to drive; it's just those damn people that bother me. I'd find an excuse to stay the f*ck out of dodge.

No she doesn't drive and she never has had a license. I tried to coach her thru a written test once and sometimes it's better to not let them drive.

A trip to CA might not be bad at all. Like suggested, drop her off, say hi, maybe stay one night and then head to the coast to do some surf fishing. The thing is the folks she wants to visit are hard core Jehovah Witness types. I'm not knocking them for that but it's really not my thing. And being around people gets to be nerve racking IHMO.

I guess I take driving for granted. That said, it's never too late to learn! Does she not realize how immobile she is without a license or does she live in a city with reliable public transportation?

Remember the mission *Visit HER Relatives*. Maybe you just have a relative in CA as well? How about a *brother from another mother* yeah - that's the ticket. Maybe, say ah, a fictitious Forum buddy. BTW, he's an avid fisherman as well (justify bringing the tackle) That's the difference between lying and laying LOW! You're right though, the beast could host one hell of a raid on that gathering if allowed - in a moment of fury that would turn into a real horror story. Avoid it!
