If the goal is to ease or extinguish fearful emotional memories like those associated with post-traumatic stress disorder, alcohol may make things worse, not better, experiments in mice suggest that. Results of their study demonstrate, they say, that alcohol strengthens emotional memories associated with fearful experiences and prevents mice from pushing aside their fears.

Interesting! I think this is very true & makes a lot of sense. It's interesting that some people use alcohol (myself included) to try & "numb" emotions when in fact, all alcohol does is intensify emotions whether you know you are feeling them or not. This is why I was always the drunk girl in the corner sobbing uncontrollably for no apparent reason!
 
If in moderation, it makes me somewhat happier. At least less locked into negativity. I have (thankfully) only had one case of sobbing with alcohol-and there was good reason (some of my traumas are not from my childhood, but came after). I, too, am grateful I'm not a mouse, for a little bit of freedom once in a while is a monumental blessing.
