I'll leave out the TMI

I needed to treat an infection, probably streptococcus, and I have absolutely zero intention of seeing a quack and bearing all for him or her (it was their professional forebears who left me vulnerable to such infections and it triggers the hell out of me).

Plus, in any other context, if the only way to get something is to expose my genitals for the person I'm seeking help from - what the hell sort of relationship is that?

In Britain, antibiotics are normally only available on prescription from a doctor, nurse practitioner, or veterinary surgeon.

I've been taking the contents of a "dry cow tube" (agricultural penicillin suspension) orally, and it seems to be working. I got it via a friend.

does anyone else have experience of seeking treatment by unconventional means, and would they share some of the ideas (please don't self incriminate!).

Yes, yes, yes, yes!!!

I'll pull some ideas and resources together for you, and in the meantime will add some links here:

Probiotics: (Lactobacillus GG or Lactobacillus rhamnosus is a great strain.). In capsules or powder form.
Essential to good health, combats v. infections, and is available without prescription in health food stores, pharmacies and online. Take daily by mouth, and you can wash with it, and send up internally if you are able.

Yogurt with active cultures. Not as concentrated as above, but very good to supplement with. Plain yogurt applied externally (and internally) is good at soothing pain and irritation from infections, and will help eradicate yeast infections common there and caused by antibiotics.
It makes it difficult for yeast and bacterial infections to grow, and helps eradicate them.

Myrrh Oil:
Fantastic stuff, smells wonderful!
1 bottle of high-quality organic, extra-virgin Olive oil.
@ 1 dozen capsules of dry, powdered Myrrh
Open the capsules and pour the powder into the bottle of olive oil. Shake well. Let the particles settle. Let the oil infuse for at least a week, the longer it sits, the better. Shake occasionally. Use the clear, myrrh- scented oil at the top of the jar. Pour a 1/2 handful into the palm of your hand and apply externally on lower abdomen, labia, and gently at v. opening
Very soothing and kills bacteria, yeasts, viruses.

Strep is halophobic... Meaning salt kills it.

Soaking the area in saltwater regularly throughout the day (gargling warm saltwater if strep throat), and eating a high sodium diet for awhile (to increase the overall salinity of your system) will help treat a strep infection. Eating too much salt will induce vomiting, and, clearly, people with issues with salt should use common sense & not induce organ damage.

For serious external wounds, infected with anything... Binding them in maggots. Maggots only eat decaying/dead flesh... So the maggots eat all the diseased flesh (preventing systemic infection & gangrene) allowing the healthy flesh to heal. Maggots need to be replaced on a regular basis, because they're not hungry 24/7 but get full. Ideally, switch them out every few hours with a previous batch of maggots / just carry little pouches of the buggers with you. The best kind of maggots to use are those already munching down on nearby corpses.

For milder / point based infections especially for limbs... Localized fever. Most pathogenic microbes (microbes that make us sick) are very sensitive to temperature. They like things right about 97-99degF. We develop a fever to kill as many millions as possible. Again, common sense, don't scald yourself! But immersing a limb in 105 degree water? Will increase the local temperature the infection is in, killing of a few million of the bastards / helping your immune system along.

Eye infections... Are usually extremely responsive to cigarette smoke. Most eye infections can be cured in 12-24 hours by having someone blow cigarette smoke directly into your eye a couple times an hour, or if by yourself exhaling into a hand cupped over your eye.

For all illness/injury... A high fat, highly processed, diet. Antibodies are almost pure fat with just a little protein thrown in for structure / it's easier for the body to convert freshly digested fats than to dip into stored energy, & our immune response shuts down digestion. The more easy to digest, the better. Examples of high fat, very processed foods include chicken soup & McDonalds.

I discovered this little gem not to long ago.http://www.greenmedinfo.com/ I too am currently dealing with an infection; lung and and blood borne infection; and can not take antibiotics due to something called a cyklonetic storm or something. ( @Ed Norton LOL) And since I refuse to be admitted to the hospital for trauma reasons, I am going the alternative route. This is the first day I have really been able to crawl out of bed so it must be helping some.

@FridayJones I want to like your post, really I do, but even though I know the maggot thing is factual...:yuck:

I don't know if this company (USA) can ship this to the UK. It's a fish antibiotic, but is the same human-grade that physicians prescribe. They're out of stock, at the moment, but they restock rapidly.

I use this to stop blood-borne infection. (Very helpful! I was vomiting horribly from septicemia, and this knocks down the bacteria and stops that.)

This website is a treasure trove of healing remedies!

http://www.eytonsearth.org/clay-books.html

The book: "Clay Disciples" by Cano Graham is wonderful! In it, he describes a late-night emergency visit by a young couple. The woman had been callously treated by a gynecologist. She was dying of toxic shock. Cano, and healing clay, stopped the toxic shock, the clay neutralized the exotoxins and killed the bacteria, and she was fine by morning.

Gram positive bacteria, if that's the case can release endotoxins, especially when the wrong antibiotic are given, which can kill you. Also, it's possible for such an infection to become systemic. I advise that you bite the bullet and see a physician. Be proud of your junk dude. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but I want to be a conventional quack.

@Fadeaway 'cytokine storm'

I don't have anything to add as far as possible treatments. Surprisingly, not because I want to sit on some medical ethics rubbish, but because I don't know anything on top of what has been suggested already.

I do however want to implore you to also research basic symptoms of infection as well as wound care. (If you have not already) As there is a fair bit of blood flow to the area in question. And honestly without a lab to do proper blood work, [Edit: bloodwork is great but I meant a swab and culture from a lab] you are just guessing as to which particular bacteria is giving you grief. Could just as easily be staphylococcus as streptococcus. Nobody wants a case of necrotising fasciitis. Especially where you are describing.

If you start noticing high fever. As well as extreme pain, redness, tenderness, inflammation, leaking of puss, bad odour. Coming from the effected area or especially from areas "upstream" then I would strongly recommend that you see a quack. Theoretically, even the most incompetent doctor should be able to recognize when someone's umm, torpedo will drop off. Also watch out for symptoms of bladder/renal infection. Kidney failure is a bad thing. Not trying to scare you (well not entirely) but I am hoping you are taking this as serious as you should be.

Basically what I am saying is. I do get that you are uncomfortable enough with medical practitioners, that you are willing to live with some discomfort and risk in order to treat yourself. Ok. If that's what you want. All the power to you. You strike me as being a highly intelligent adult, capable of living in a very self-sufficient manner. If I recall you said you live off the grid for the most part, correct? You likely have a good sense of situational awareness, thus I assume you will see a quack if you are out of other options?

Just be aware of the line between discomfort and septicaemia. Don't cross it.

Best of luck to you. Don't forget to also get plenty of fluids, being properly hydrated is hugely important.

Oh, and get well soon.

@Ed Norton I had dreams of being a Surgeon myself. Though that didn't pan out for me.

I have also had my share of quacks, nothing bad enough to make me attempt treating a serious infection by myself using what I could source "unconventionally".

While I don't necessarily agree with @Anarchy on his methods, I don't want to automatically shoot him down either. Lots of good information here in this thread, from all perspectives.

I see practical advice from a mainstream perspective, as well as a wealth of homeopathic options. Plus a healthy dose of naysaying. Seems pretty rounded.

Hopefully he's successful, without having to step foot in a doctors surgery. If not I hope he has enough information to make the decision to go, before anything gets too bad.

Just thinking about that makes me cringe. So I can't believe it isn't doing the same to him. After all, it's his ass on the line. (Bad pun sorry, couldn't help it).

I am hoping we'll get an update on how he's doing.
