Anxiety About Staying At House (there Was An Attempted Break In)

New Here
I am going to visit my girlfriend tomorrow and stay with her for a week. Her family are off away so will just be us two there.

However, there was an attempted break in last night, I don't know any details beyond there was a lot of noise and the back window glass was cracked but not broken. They didn't manage to get in and no one seemed to wake up to disturb them.

I am getting really anxious about going in case something happens. Is there anything you could say to help me calm down? The area she is in is a bit rough but so is the place I live, we live in the UK so no weapons and I keep saying that because they failed they probably won't try again.

I'm sorry that happened.

I'm glad the glass didn't break. Is it double glazing? It's extremely hard to break that kind of glass. Someone smashed a brick into our window once and it cracked but stayed intact and secure. Also, they never came back.

Does the family's insurance cover the damage? If so, they should be able to get an emergency callout to assess it and get the glass replaced or boarded over if they think this is needed.

They might also want to get a crime prevention officer or security firm to come and assess whether it's a good idea to add any extra security. I did this, and was reassured that it was all fine, although I opted for one extra thing because it made me feel better. (An assessment is free and a good security firm won't try to sell you something you don't need.)

I wish you a safe and peaceful stay.

It didn't break is all I know.

The family living there have changed their locks today to get slightly stronger ones and I've checked the crime statistics and this is quite an anomaly for the area.

Just worried I might be anxious

What would happen if you're anxious?

Like, are you worried you'll get anxious around your g/f and she'll think you're a whimp or something? is what I mean.

If that's the case why not rent a bunch of movies and have an all-night movie marathon, that way you can stay awake and alert and maybe distract yourself with what's on tv instead of freaking out at every small noise you might here etc.

Just my thoughts.
