My sister used to raise Arabians and had a Morgan to stand point and protect the flock... a big big horse (think Cavalry/War Horse)

nothing like seeing those Arabians prance by...

Yeah nice big work horse. I just love the way they are so calm, takes a lot to spook a shire. Which is why when I get a horse I am cautious about getting any other type.
Especialy when we are having a bad day with the beast. Last thing I need is spooking an animal which is there to help me.

Horses are a lot like dogs in a way, they both sense fear, and both are a good judge of character. Both the dogs here sense when I am stressed, so I don't see why horse would not be able to either.

As Ned said, it gives you a routine, it gives you something else to think about rather than your problems.
