Do you feel like "part of you died" in the trauma?

I often say to.people and my Dr's / therapists that I feel like "a part of me died" as a result of the trauma.

Everyone tells me that makes no sense, that a part of you can't die.

I heard another trauma survivor use the exact same phrase the other day and that made me research it and I found two studies about it.

I'm wondering if others have experienced this too?

Does it ever go away again?

I’ve heard/seen this a lot before. Don’t think it’s unusual…

I’ve experienced similar, but not the same; feeling “dead” due to trauma. Lots of parts have written about that. Being dead or having died, been killed, those kind of feelings.
Guess that’s more-so feeling death of the whole self than death of part of self.

Think there was a short period of (very young?) parts feeling actually dead, literally, that they were not alive anymore. Not functionally but literally, as a perception of their physical state.

It comes and goes, feels better and worse for me.
