I was just wondering how many of those with PTSD have a carer (spouse, significant other, friend, parent, etc.) who is either a member of the forum or at least reads the forum posts and info.

Thanks,

Ace

P.S. This was just meant to be a 2-option poll (yes/no), but I don't believe that it's been attached to the thread. I'll add it if I can (through editing); otherwise, perhaps an administrator could attach the poll option? Sorry about the inconvenience.

My husband Jim and I were very active upon this forum for approximately a years' time, whilst our daughter Evie (batgirl) frequented the forum. Our son (Sapper) also popped in occasionally. Our daughter very much appreciated the support, though I think we annoyed her at times! We learned a great deal as well. It is truly a win-win situation, not to mention, it fosters honesty in all members of the family! As a carer or a sufferer, it is not so easy to exaggerate, tell half-truths or seek unneccessary sympathy with family members present! I highly recommend families becoming involved as much as possible.

I voted no. None of my carers, including my wife are members or read the forum. This is a place of solitude for me, a place to find answers and my thoughts are mine. Whether it is in the open board or not, it is another therapy tool for me to use at my discretion; if any of them were to be on here, then it would feel as if they were watching me and pushing me to participate. Healing is at my pace, not at a pace any one else can set.

I just started treatment therefore I do not know all of my new carers. However I know my family don't even know I'm on the sight.

Its sad you think your carers would push you in that way. I must admit in the earlier days being here helped me understand a lot more about what Anthony was going through while giving me a place to talk with people who were in a similar position to me.

I do agree Healing is at your pace.....

I voted no because even though I asked my mom to join the forum or just read around a bit and she said yes, she still hasn't done it. They don't get it and they don't want to get it. That's just the way it is around here.

My hubbby thinks it's important for me to have my own "spaces" and I like that, therefore, he is not a member. I have printed off certain information for him to read from the site, but that's it.

Even though I voted no.....there are times I wish I had a carer that understood, knew all of the BAD things and still was around but i have mentioned this to a few people but I really do not have a carer...I am my carer.

i do not consider my friends my carers because i feel like no one, other than my one cousin truly understands how debilitating this can be.
