Are phobias linked to ptsd?

This is probably a stupid question :)
Obviously lots are linked to a trauma.
I am not really thinking of the obvious ones. I am thinking of wierd phobias. Does your mind create new and nonsense phobias after a trauma. More things to avoid?

Like my phobia of glitter. What is that all about :D
Is it about a big mess that I will have to clear up perhaps? Ha ha.

a fear of fairies? ;)

ha ha... but seriously Belle, I think it is pretty common for phobias to develop. Mine are pretty common like a fear of heights, being killed in an auto accident, flying, heights, etc. but there may be a reason for your phobia that you just haven't discovered yet. I mean a phobia is a fear, so you probably fear it for a reason and the reason may or may not come back to you. Hopefully you will discover it's secret and overcome it. I would just consider it to be part of your uniqueness.:)

But who knows, that stuff does make a big mess and it sticks to everything.

I didn't mean to make light of your situation Belle and I am glad that you get my sense of humor!!! I guess if you can figure out what the fear is, then you may be able to discover what the reason behind it is as well.

I think that a lot of developing phobias, or intense and semingly irrational fears of certain things, can develop due to their linkage to trauma triggers. In that sense, I suppose it can be said that phobias are linked to PTSD, but rather than to the condition itself, I think it's more a case of developing an enduring and genralised fear of something that is, or is associated with, a trauma trigger or traumatic memory.

When I think of many of my most common triggers, for example, I know that I have developed some level of generalised fear of the prominent object, situation, sensation etc, that is associated with it.

Phobias respond to the same therapeutic interventions as trauma in many cases, and I suppose it's logical when you consider the association.
