It is possible to make 2 PDF's into one? I have 2 PDF's from the same site (Bristol University). It seems a bit silly (and looks a bit wierd) to list the reference twice, with just different PDF's at the end. Can they be made into one PDF, and therefore one reference?

I have added some PDF's using the filezilla program. If I want to add gallery pictures, where do I put them? Do I create a new folder? What is the standard for naming the pictures?

Can members see the pages that are under construction? Or only when complete?

It's tricky to know how much detail is required. I'll admit that when it comes to something like this, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Particularly as I have picked a very 'science' based topic to write about. I used to write 'science' based essays for my degree, where it was all about the latest research and getting everything scientifically correct. I think finding the latest research is the hard part, or maybe I'm just being too complicated. Hmmm ... not sure.

In the image upload video / gallery details, it states that when uploading images, the naming convention is a folder based on the exact page name, so if the page name is: selective-serotonin-reuptake-inhibitor then the folder name for images is identical to that. What naming convention you use in that folder, don't care... because its really only about the folder for the overall quick identification of images for x page.

Don't think scientific, think common-sense. This wiki is about addressing the traumatic brain, breaking down complicated information and presenting in such a way that anyone can read it, understand it, learn from it, and apply it to themselves.

This wiki is useless if all it does is repeat already complicated methods available by searching Google.

Yesterday's post plus this made the writing actually flow well for the first time-it wasn't arduous. Last week the feeling was ( in my head ) it did have to be sentences immediately followed up by references and 'factoids' previously alluded to elsewhere by experts- as in every one. Made me crazy, plus the whole thing just looked idiotic in the end.

I understand that Anni - I'm going to take a look at my page, and make it less science, and more PTSD friendly.

Anthony, you didn't answer my pdf question
It is possible to make 2 PDF's into one? I have 2 PDF's from the same site (Bristol University). It seems a bit silly (and looks a bit wierd) to list the reference twice, with just different PDF's at the end. Can they be made into one PDF, and therefore one reference?

I have one more question - if I add pictures (thanks for the info about naming btw -I must have missed that somehow), do they have to be a certain size before I upload them, or does the gallery template take care of sizing?

If you had two PDF's, they would both have unique titles, yes? If so, then they would be listed uniquely in the reference, but remember, you can group references when citing, ie. [1, 3, 5] or if 1 to 5 was applicable for a statement [1-5].

The only way I know that you could physically join two PDF's is if you have the original text document, or, you print them both out and scan them in together as one document, PDF scanning via most scanner softwares these days.

I would think they would both be written by different people, hence the author issue, so would require to be listed uniquely! Yes / No?

Ok, if you look at the example page, you will see two galleries. The first one is uploaded just using the image sizes at different heights, widths, etc... the software will do the work, yes, but you can see that they are different heights, as the width is automatically controlled. If you want them to look pretty when the software controls the resizing, aka, the second gallery on example page, then you are first best to resize / crop every image so they are the same size, then you get a much nicer looking gallery when you upload.

If you don't have the ability or software to crop / resize images, then just upload them to the folder name as stated, then send me a PC with the folder name and I will download them onto my PC, crop / resize them all to the same size, reupload over the existing and it will automatically fix itself.

Pretty much, the smallest image will define the rest, however; if scaling is used correctly, you can have different image sizes providing they are proportionate in scaling. Best of just to make all to the smallest size.

Thanks Anthony - that all makes sense. I don't have a scanner, so will leave the 2 PDFs alone.

But I am able to crop and resize images - thanks!

Back to the images - do you know the optimum size that an image should be? 72 ppi or 300ppi? Is there an optimum file size, or length/width?
Also - not sure what to include in the gallery (maybe nothing). Pictures that are somehow relevant, but not necessarily informative, or just "really necessary for clarification purposes" pictures?

Or am I looking at this too deeply

Most topics that require images would be for descriptive / clarity / educational. You wouldn't attach a meadow of flowers to the topic sexual assault, as an example, but could attach real images taken of the aftermath, to demonstrate its ugliness. Suicide would be the same... deterrent comes to mind:

Do we look for something visual for all articles? Please excuse if that's redundant- could have missed something. Foggy at the moment.

Also, since I'm attempting to write with another author, how does that work? Do I just begin page construction when I think I can, and the other person does their own portion? I only say 'think' since it's still intimidating but I'm never going to feel 'ready'. The only way to do it is just get in there and make the mistakes, I think. I'd rather have you tell me what to do where, of course but realize that's not quite realistic. Am in a PTSD fog-but know from experience can manage this by being very, very deliberate ( if slow ). :)

1. No, there is no requirement to make a wiki page visual.
2. You just create away Anni... I'm sure you are competent in writing your own article... I am just guiding you. Don't build-up a fear about it prior to doing it... its really easy once you know the process, and have built a page.

Remember, don't complicate things. Read, learn, then write in your words with the backing of your sourced info.
