Good grief. This thread is just a treat for the entire day-Curiouser, oh my! Texture, light and perspective- 3 of my biggest pains in the neck apparently overcome with zero effort. Sigh. So lovely!
Iams, yes, classes are wonderful with a word of caution. I'll get it in the neck for this but your sort of raw 'thing' is worth it. I lack your sort of eye, as well as in photography-mine is in design, color, form, etc. Just never had 'IT' with portraits-believe m, tried! :) At any rate, classes and other artists can be flukey.( I said CAN be-not a sweeping statement before anyone gets annoyed with this) You'll get good and bad so go easy. You'd THINK a big clump of artists all together would be this nice, happy, easy going collection of folks but it's not always the case. I'd just hate to see you get your confidence squished through a bad experience, that's all. before taking one, if I were you. I'd use that amazing eye of your to drink in museums, collections of other works, experiment with mediums and just draw draw draw for awhile-let you be the judge first of where your gift takes you and how it developes before putting it in the hands of someone who perhaps isn't guiding it correctly. I'll shush there. There are many, many excellent, caring, involved instructors genuinely happy to freely impart their skill to others but many who are not-the puzzle is to ascertain going in which is which. You've already got 'it'-what most are going to class for in the first place and it cant be taught. Sorry to come across as 'I know so much'-I don't, just have been at this for kind of a long time. There's a specific place for what you require, that's all- might take some carefull looking to find it.
