It is trite I know, but if they don't know, they can't help. Modern dentists are so much more empathic than they used to be.

Definitely with you with this one. I had a tooth taken out on Monday. I had horrendously flashback after, which was triggered by feeling restrained - urgh!

Yes I think a lot of it is to do with feeling restrained and out of control. Does your dentist know you struggle? If so, how did you tell them?

Ice fire - no, not directly told her but I specifically asked for her as had her before & she's very gentle with me. She put in loads of anaesthetic as I wouldn't let her touch it when she tried 3 times! Joys of hypervigilance! But she knows what meds I'm on and I was visibly very shaky (the whole seat was shaking! ) and tearful so she prob guessed. I try and act brave but find it incredibly distressing.

KP - thankyou :) not too bad. Last time I was in agony for weeks, this time was just a couple of days but ironically despite it taking a lot of anaesthetic and not stopping bleeding (she got rather worried) it came out very easily so a lit less pain than I imagined :) means I haven't had to stick to soup all week :)

I went today Ice_Fire and it was not as bad as I was expecting. have to go back next week for a bit of work, but only what I was expecting.

Unfortunately she is leaving, so I will have to get to know and trust another dentist there.

I managed to get hubby to the dentist today.

He was full of anxiety but was OK once we had talked to his dentist, and broke the ice again.

He only has to go back for one app, but maybe more to follow as time goes on.

Slowly does it for now.

I had one of my worst panic attacks ever at the dentist last year - thought I was going to have a heart attack. I didn't go again until a couple weeks ago - to a new dentist.

I didn't have any problems this time, so i'm hoping that was just a one-time thing...

I managed to get hubby to the dentist today.

Now he can have toffee as a reward :devilish::roflmao:
