My goal is to eat as healthy and as little as possible. Is this an eating disorder? I don't think so.
It would depend on where you took that, how, & why.
A few examples (yes)
- If you’re lying in bed all day? Minus both activity & ratiocination (the effort it takes not to be a puddle, about 80% of the average person’s calorie expenditure per day), you only need about 300 calories to be healthy. Meanwhile if you’re in serious physical training, about 25,000 calories. If you gave up all activity, to lay in bed to conserve energy, so you didn’t have to eat as much? Yep. Eating disorder. Big time. <<< What makes it disordered eating is how you’ve drastically curtailed / limited
your life surrounding your food.
- If you’re punishing yourself, by consuming the bare minimum for your lifestyle, that doesn’t even need an explanation, does it?
- If you’re living like it’s an emergency (survive is the key word you used, we survive emergencies and drastic circumstance) when it’s not an emergency? Whether it’s your diet or your bomb shelter, in order to feel safe/in control... again, disordered eating, big time.
- If the act of eating in any way is causing flashbacks, anxiety attacks, etc.? So you’re making sure you eat healthy, but as little as possible to avoid trauma symptoms? Yeah. It’s disordered eating.
There are lots and lots of ways eating the minimum doesn’t have to be disordered eating, an eating disorder, or have any trauma issues surrounding food. And there are lots of ways it can be.
