Politics and power, the media and impact on children.

Don't watch main stream, but can't have a democracy without an informed public.

Today horrendous reports of Trump win being acted out by children. At one school a ten year old boy grabbed a girls vagina saying "if Trump can do it, so can I." Another was a black teddy bear found with noose. At another school Caucasians raising the nazi salute and this county is now going to be white again.

I am vomiting. How to know these things, what to do about this? He did not win the popular vote, the electoral college gave it to him. The key states one by a sliver (less than 1%, and he gets all those.) 11 states have already in place that popular vote trumps the electoral college. The EC meets state by state 12/19 to formalize their votes.

The media children are growing up with is terrifying.

Consider the source is also an opponant to Trump.
Also consider that Trump disavowed any doings with racist "white supremacist" groups.
Just because som kids go around giving the Roman salute (proper name), it does not mean Trump or the GOP has anything to do with it.
Just as I am doubtful of Clinton having anything to do with the Mexican kids at an American high school (Taylorsville HS in Utah) and their anti-American protesting. Nor do I beleieve that she has anything to do with a man that was beaten earlier because he voted Trump.
We cannot justify holding candidates responsible for the actions of those that claim to follow them. To do so negates the right of individual responsibility.

"There were two separate incidents involving two sets of students," [Canisius College President John Hurley] said. "The placement of the doll in the elevator originally, and...a photograph of the doll hanging from a curtain rod." ...Tuesday evening, students who found the doll put it in the elevator as a prank to scare people when the elevator door opened. Upon closer examination, Hurley says two strings attached to the body of the doll's neck, as part of its construction, do not actually appear to be used as a noose. He also said what happened outside the elevator...is even more disturbing. The doll was hung from a curtain rod in the room and students took photos of it. One student created a meme about Trump fans and sent it to friends.
Not a noose. The doll was found in the laundry room and put into the elevator as some sort of scare prank (dumb one, but college students).

Then, the doll was taken by some other students, hung from a curtain rod, and turned into a meme that said "Trump supporters...hanging babies since 2016".

The meme image was made by anti-Trump people. So, honestly? The shitty, hate-filled image was made by anti-trump-ers, not by the pro-trump side as the democracy now article implies.

Now, the 10 year old girl incident:

From Minorities under attack in the US after Donald Trump's presidential election win
...online, Simone Zavala Nolet wrote: “One of my student’s aunts had to go pick up her daughter from school today because a boy grabbed her vagina. She’s 10. When asked why, he said that if a president can do it, I can too.” That incident was posted on the website of Shaun King, a New York Daily News journalist who documents social injustice around the US.

Read carefully - one of my student's aunts had to pick her daughter up from school. This falls into the 'friend of a friend' category of urban legend. The aunt had to have told the student who told the teacher. Honestly, the odds that this has been accurately reported are very slim.

I am not thrilled about continuing to host threads on US politics in this forum. They overwhelm the more PTSD/mental health-related content.

But for now, if they show up - I ask that things be well and fully documented. No-one on staff has the time to fact check all this stuff, and feeding into rumor to bolster fear is just not useful, helpful, or healthy.

I'm with Joey. I personally fell that unless it directly involves PTSD, the election AND politics should be left out of the entire PTSD forum. Not just US politics, 'mind you.
