Book Club Chit Chat Thread

I was not able to find the book here in English. I have ordered it in the states and must wait until I arrive to receive it (Feb. 7th). But this brought up an interesting (yet stupid) question.

Hi, you can get all the books from Amazon UK, web address is www.amazon.co.uk

There is a choice of new, second hand, paperback etc. and also for a kindle. Can also buy the kindle if you can afford it.:)

Just looked at http://www.bookdepository.com MAS... nice find. Whilst the books are about the same price as Amazon, no delivery cost anywhere in the world, which helps a lot.

I agree... read the book in whatever language you want. The book is the book, the story is still the same... there should only be minor language differences in very few areas to be honest.

I am also happy with weekly reviews. At the end of the day, even chapter by chapter for those with few, still doesn't matter, as you have x amount of chapters to be read in the week, and when you reply is up to you personally... ie. whether after a chapter, after two, three, four, or you read the whole book and wait until the end of the discussion to comment.

Every single person is going to be unique on this, and I think the only important point is that we don't have anyone discussing something ahead of time, thus ruining an event / outcome for others who have not yet read that area.

Oh... whoever starts a thread on the book, they really become the "moderator" of that books discussion group IMHO.

I've been picturing one thread per book, and wondering how discussions were going to make any sense that way. This sounds like, I might find a certain aspect of the book worth discussing, and so I fire up a thread about it. :)

Were you picturing a thread for each week? So, late readers could read in the same sections.. then post when they want to comment, thereby not viewing material that happens in the next chapter or so? That would be really cool. Maybe there could even be a thread for those who read the whole thing and want to discuss it as a whole... :cautious: because I picture them getting confused as to which chapter they read something in and then spoiling the book in our weekly discussion thread.

In this way, people read at their own pace, and participate once they've read the specified sections... just have to trust yourself not to glance at the upcoming section. Which leads me to another concern... IF I were to fire off some thread to discuss... I'd want to be careful about naming it, so as not to spoil anything.

(Please accept my apology if I missed that outline already.)

No... one thread per book is all that is needed, as the book is the book, the title (subject) doesn't change, thus an element within the book can be discussed in that books thread.

Otherwise, we will end up with threads everywhere about one book. One thread per book.

The idea is to end-up with lots of relevant book threads, nothing else.

Just got Tiger's Wife on Kindle but I refuse to start reading until the offical start date because I like rules! Lol

PS this is the best idea ever, I think we should have a book club at work, as part of wellbeing team I might suggest it :)

Ok. I understand. Too many threads about one book would be cumbersome. However, you suggest someone may fall off schedule and simply catch up, and I think if they fall off schedule it may take them a while to catch up. While they're trying to catch up, they aren't going to open the discussion thread because then they will spoil what is to come. They aren't going to participate in what they're reading anymore because they are behind... even though, they may have insights they'd like to share. With one thread per book, if they haven't lost all confidence to share their insights by the time they catch up, or when they finally finish the book, then they may share some things in a post but you won't get the discussion that would be possible if there were smaller chunks of the book to post within.

For instance, 1st third of the book... then start a new thread for 2nd third and a new thread for the last third. That way, FOREVER, when someone decides they want to read that book and discuss it, they could post as they read... and feel like they're discussing it with people as we go along, rather than tossing out something at the end.

It's the difference between feeling like you're a part of something, and feeling like you missed your chance...
