Here in most parts of Aus we have Counsellors (a therapist) but they don't all need to have a psych degree, the quality of the courses they have to take varies- so the quality of the therapy does too. There's clinical psychologists who are usually more expensive, usually have more expertise but don't prescribe meds (Medicare offers a decent rebate on 8-10 sessions per year in most states- you just need a referral from your GP). Psychiatrists are the same here- less talk, more focus on meds. I see a psychologist who has experience with ptsd and with perpetrators of abuse, so it's a good fit. It's taken me personally a long time to find someone who is a really good fit. I hope you can find someone who really works for you too Johnny~
