Can You Add A Disability If You Are Already Medically Retired At 100% Because Of A Different Injury?

I am just curious about this because I, of course, was medically retired due to my leg injury at 100% Service-Connected Disability. What I am wondering is if I can get the VA or the military or whoever add the diagnosis of PTSd I now have? I just think it should be on their for documentation purposes. I am already 100% so it definitely is not a money thing.

Anyway just wondering if anyone knows if that is possible?

Yes it is the money if you are getting 50$ for retirement and you get 50$ from the va disability you don't get mere money but the money that you are getting is tax free. It doesn't get two differant settlements but you determination no mater what % that % is then applied to your retirement. It works the same way if you were never hit and retired at 20 yrs. My father retired after 28 yrs from the army he is a nam vet and was awarde 3 purple hearts wich didn't get him far while in especially the farther away from nam it became. He retired and applied for VA compensation for agent orange problems and PTSD that really took affect after he didn't have the safty net of the military. I don't remember what persent he received but lets say 50% he gets 50% of his retirement tax free. I works out that your money will come from two differant places still on one check but you will get disability for both you leg and ptsd regaurdless of the retirement and wouldn't it be nice not to pay taxes on that money I think you paid enough.

Femalevet,
Not a good idea to reopen your claims file just to document your PTSD. When you reopen, they lok at ALL your ratings and could quite possibly reduce your existing rating. Just keep track of your med records. Always, always get copies of any Dr. visits.

Medicaly retired from the military is differant than a va disability. If yo serve 20 years and retire from the military it is the same as a full medical retirement. If you are rated at say 20% from the va you do not receive more money but you get 20% of your medical retirement tax free. The va is a totaly differant orgabisation. The can't take away a retirement or reduce it other wise all the nam vets that finished a career could not apply for va disability.

Same over here. If I was to re-open and claim, they will look at everything and if something did not fall under a certain date or operation, then I could lose my ratings. I just have things recognised now

Another bogus regulation piled on top of an adversarial system. I can understand it if you were just awarded a ratinga couple of years ago, but ratings that have been static for a long time, common! That'sbullshit.

thanks....just curious.....everything is documented finally.....I was just wondering if I should have it reviewed....but I can see where that would not be a good idea. Again thanks for the information.
