So I was surfing and came across this study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. A snippet at the end caught my attention.

Another risk factor for CHD is environmental stress. Childhood trauma can lead to an average decrease in life expectancy of 20 years.

I have no idea where they got that since there is no source listed.

Their conclusion is good though-
Coronary artery disease is a chronic inflammatory disease and it can be reduced effectively by walking 22 min a day and eating real food. There is no business model or market to help spread this simple yet powerful intervention.

So throw away your Cheetos and get out there and walk. Maybe we can undo that 20 year reduced lifespan thing.

I'm trying to throw away the big Cheeto because he really causes me stress. Sorry, couldn't help myself. I totally agree with you, no processed foods. Look at the ingredients on a bag of bread. My recipe for bread is flour, water, yeast, and salt. Of course that is a simple bread, but the list on purchased bread goes on and on. What are you really eating? Big pharma has nothing next to the food industry. Well, they are probably equal.

Nope, don't want to live another 20 yrs. Would have been happy if I had died 20 yrs ago. I'm tired, I hurt, sick of physical pain, and tired of the emotional roller coaster of PTSD. I'll just munch on jelly beans and have hot fudge sundaes more often. Maybe that'll work, if not, at least I'll go eating what I want!!!!

I'm not seeking to extend the length of my life (or death), as I'm ready to go whenever, and hopefully as painlessly as possible. I just want to continue to try to improve the quality of it while I remain stuck in this meat coated skeleton. I seem to be my best last hope as I've exhausted all the other external options.

While it's an extreme approach that was prompted by a medical emergency, choosing to totally redesign my fuel sources by letting go of meat, dairy, eggs, gluten, caffeine, alcohol, etc. as being my most often preferred items of consumption was the most effective method of relief I've found yet. Making it possible for me to even think about taking a daily walk, which eventually led to enough weight loss that resulted in learning more fun ways to get moving. Exercise had never been fun before, only incredibly painful and draining which lead to me totally dreading it.

Having a strong support system including a husband who supported me in resigning from full-time employment is what truly helped make it possible, though. Without him and a few friends who offer(ed) direct specific support and guidance making everything so easily attainable, I'm not so sure I would have transitioned and managed to remain on track with it, nor would I have even wanted to. Different fuel sources, different choices, different problems, still......similar suffering. Same hells, different devils, I suppose. May we each expire as comfortably as possible.

While I've never thought to search for research on it, I find it easy to believe that childhood trauma can reduce life expectancy as it does add additional strain on the body through its impact on the mind, if left unresolved. We are essentially chemistry in action.

Thanks for posting a study that gives some credence to my observation that my grandparents lived longer, healthier lives, despite their "unhealthy" eating habits. Butter! Full cream milk! Fat on their meat! Gasp! No additives. Most of them made it well into their 80's, despite hereditary diseases in the families.

I vote for quality of life over quantity, even the prospect of climbing stairs already reduces me to tears!

Hydrating, eating right, exercise and rest can help with any chronic disease, improve mental health, aid in disease prevention and even improve the quality of life for those combating terminal disease. Not the most popular recommendations as their isn't any money to be made, nor is the impact immediate, but takes time.

Personally, I believe that it has helped with my own mental, emotional and physical health. Also, making the changes are one of the few things that don't hurt you or have side effects.

I really could care less about my expiration date. I just want to feel good living in my shell until I am force to leave it & this is why I chose to live a Paleo Lifestyle. 18 months ago, I cut out all my "recommended foods" & went cold turkey by cleaning out my entire pantry of all toxins. I donated over 20 bags of food to a local food pantry & never looked back. I was able to cheat death & ill health & lost almost 40 pounds by doing nothing but eating! I am a bit of a "nut" when it comes to what I will & won't eat, as I feel that I got to "cheat death" by going against the medical pros & finding a diet that works for me. No one knows my body like I do. I have done more experimenting on myself in my almost 64 years on this planet & keeping it simple is working.

My life now includes:
Protein (Animal or Nut)
Vegetable
Fruits
Good Fats (EVOO, coconut, avocado)

No labels to read & I now cook 100% of my food at home & I find it fun to care for myself & try new unusual vegetables that I see at the local farmers markets. I never knew bok choy & baby garlic could taste so good together!

Yes, I do get to indulge on cacao a few times a week. I make it with honey & raw unsalted almond butter. A little goes a long way & what was once a joke in my mind is now a satisfying way to live that brings me joy on a daily basis. I now know the meaning of EAT TO LIVE! I was once killing myself with food. Never again.

Thats the one thing I've had a hard time with. I used to love to cook but cooking just for me has been...
I did find that cooking protein in bulk works well & I freeze what I know I won't use within a 5 day period. But, I also cook for my kid everyday & it gives me incentive to keep organized with my shopping & storing needs. We both eat different protein sources in the morning. I like my eggs runny & my meat red. She likes her eggs dry & her meat fully cooked. So, I just leave hers on the stove longer while I eat mine standing over the stove! I hate eating at a table!

I always exercised. This time I worked out hard 2 years and lost no weight. I knew it was diet but like repressed memories I didn't want to know. Look around the gym no one changes, no one loses weight. (5% maybe). I stopped eating. I changed my diet. Now I'm 58 and I weigh about what I did in high school. I'm muscular and skinny. I don't really have to diet anymore. Eating less and eating the stuff that keeps me thin is automatic now. When I started this time I was 200 pounds and couldn't do a single chin up. Walking up stairs got me winded.

All that being said I still have cptsd. I'm only barely functional and I haven't worked in years. Go figure. Even going to my YMCA where everyone is so nice and no one speaks is barely doable (I medicate)

Friends, you can all just pass your Cheetos to me, and if you have some m&m's kicking around, I'll take them too. I've already lived way longer than I should have, and want to go with orange fingers...
