Citalopram .. Anyone On This ?

I was on it for about 6 months - had very little effect, so I swapped meds. Give it a chance though - 6 weeks is nothing!

I had my dosage increased from 40mg to 60mg. I feel a lot better on the higher dosage. More in control of how I am feeling

It's good to hear you're feeling better KP, a higher dose is helping me too.
Citalopram was another tool to support me through the tough times & therapy.

For anyone just starting to take it, try to stick with it, it can take up to 3mths to feel the full effect.

I was on it for about 3months, on 20 mg for about 2 months not much change once i upped it to 40 i found it dulled things for me, i was less edgy and not as easily startled. but i also found in the same sense my thoughts were slow and sluggish, i stopped taking it because of that. I did it without my doctors permission. Am going to make an appointment to see her soon to talk about the medication as i feel worse off without medication maybe il see about thirty mg or diff med, not sure best of luck with citalopram. give it a chance, it works, i just didnt like the side effects. x

hi kerrence, what you experienced with Citalopram was quite normal. That slow sluggyness wears off after a while, then you begin to feel the real benefit. I've been taking it for 2yrs now & don't notice any side effects.

I took Citalopram for only a week or so because it made me feel like my brain was no longer able to block out any incoming stimuli. At that time we had two adult and four baby cats around the house. It was a nightmare.

A girlfriend of mine took Citalopram for around two weeks and it made her feel incredibly tired on a physical level while mentally she was fine. That wasn't exactly a comfortable state of affairs, also.

In ADs it seems to be especially obvious how different different people's bodies can react to an identical substance.
Although... we're both on Trevilor now and doing fine.

It worked well for me for almost a decade, then circumstances caused a complete meltdown and I had my meds changed. I miss the time on it in many ways. It never felt as if it was altering me, just kind of ... buffering things.

I have now been on it for about seven or eight years.

I had lots of side effects initially but they eased off and dissapeared eventually. It did not totally deal with my depression at all but did take the edge off enough for me to be functional. Made a big difference all in all.

Good luck and remember we still need to do the mental work to deal with depression - negative self talk, sleep, nutrition etc.... Take care.
