Colorful and hopefully optimistic but maybe hateful occasionally

Also I got a really okayish picture of two mosquitoes mating midair!

I want to be as determined as a female mosquito one day. They have to mate, then go after a high-risk thing to get blood or else their babies die.

Imagine having to basically have two partners to reproduce, and one of them will 100% try to kill you (if you’re a zebra mosquito going after a human) but you have to live to have the babies

I never kill them, my family thinks it’s hilarious. But after you take enough pictures of them peacefully drinking nectar and having no idea that they’re vectors for diseases that can’t exist without them (could you imagine being that critter, either?), and see scientists giving their own blood to sustain colonies, you kind of don’t want them getting hurt unless it’s quick or painless

Dragonflies, on the other hand, are terrifying. Super cool guys tho, but a much higher kill rate than any other animal on Earth (97% success kill rate; compare to a lion, 30% success kill rate)

He spent thousands to get his dog a hip replacement across the country, in California. Is that love?
Love the animal he abused? No - that is reparing a broken toy.
Love for an animal that is young and you want to save? - Yep - you want to help them have a better life
Love for an animal that is old and you are prolonging its death and causing it more harm? Selfish.

It was his entire life’s savings at the time. I don’t really know how long it helped her live. She died in a hole she dug in the backyard — died of a heart attack, I was told, but no one knows — and it made Billie afraid of the back yard. She wouldn’t go out there anymore, until I had spent time with her and then she’d come out with me, or she’d come out with the neighbor. She trusted the neighbor. So did Blu (dog with hip replacement). I just can’t figure out this behavior, it’s weird and too disturbing to discuss with people

I tried asking people who are into dogs about it and they said he was doing some things right but something was wrong, but they didn’t elaborate on what was wrong. I didn’t ask at the time but personally I was worried about their dogs. I wanted to study the psychology of dogs and find out if their dogs were healthy. I feel like I need that answer

No need to reply to that, it’s probably not a good discussion. Nightmare fuel right there (TV tropes is fun, I highly recommend that site!)

I caught a brown recluse

One time our whole house was infested with them, and I was the one held responsible for getting them all out.

I didn’t like killing them so I perfected getting them to go outside, in the woods.

I just caught a baby one and it reminded me of those years. Must have been 2010, 2011 or so.

This lil babe one started standing in water as soon as she was put into the bottle. Seems to have gotten in through the same window the hornet did (who also was released outside without harm — she was fed a berry).

Living in the woods provides cool adventures with baby animals who have no idea that they’re big on the inside

Brown recluses are only supposed to be active between October through March, so I think this one doesn’t know how to read a calendar

Their bites aren’t as dangerous as the media/rumor claims, btw, there wasn’t any danger in me catching a baby who snuck in on accident

When your friend wants a belly rub but might be planning a sneak attack to your face

My therapist told me yesterday that she would have smacked me for something I said.

I'm having a lot of trouble understanding this. I think it might have been a joke though, not sure. She laughed after she said it, not in the "that was funny and you should laugh" way, but in a ... I'm not sure.
