I have two cocker spaniels and like all dogs we manage to properly bond with they know what's going on with us even if we don't. When I am happy my dogs don't rest until I have played with them and thrown the ball about a million times.
When I am down they just jump onto my lap and lick my face as if to say its ok buddy we are right here.
