Just wondering, does anyone here like TV Funhouse, the animated shorts that SNL (Saturday Night Live) produces? I'm a big fan. I used to think the Charlie Brown Christmas spoof was my favourite, but I recently saw their spoof of Dora the Explorer and it's hilarious! Here's a link to the video:

It helps if you've actually watched Dora, which I have LOTS considering how often I babysit my nephews, but it's funny either way. There's a complete list of all the TV Funhouse shorts here:

Share what your favourite is, if you have one! :)

Hey, thanks for the invite!!

I like editorials and political cartoons. Here's an artist I like - Mark Fiore - you can see his animations at http://www.markfiore.com/

I also like Tom Tomorrow.

I like some of the TV Funhouse shorts, Evie. I don't recall the Dora one - I'll have to check it out!

Cool thanks Hodge, I bookmarked the site. You and Dad have something in common. He LOVES political cartoons, especially Canadian or military related ones. Here's a Canadian cartoonist he especially likes:

I like some political cartoons, though I'm more into the vintage ones, ones that 50+ years old. I really like WW2 memorabilia in general, especially war posters too. There are some really cool communist and fascist cartoons and posters from that period, and the Spanish Civil War posters are my absolute favourite.

Evie and Lisa, if you like that stuff, be sure to check out the online collections of the Library of Congress, if you haven't already. Tons of posters and memorabilia from all eras. http://www.loc.gov - it's a bit tricky to navigate, but poke around the exhibits for starters.

Mackey's cartoons are cool, thanks!

I am a total cartoon freak, especially Warner Bros and MGM (Looney Tunes,Tom & Jerry, Droopy Dog, Screwy Squirrel, etc), HB, Pink Panther, The Inspector, Laff Olympics...to Family Guy, King of the Hill, American Dad, most of Adult Swim, and a big chunk of Cartoon Network. I'm not as much of a comic geek as I once was...the only one I really keep up with anymore is Hellblazer.

As for The Funnies...Garfield, Doonesbury, Bloom County, Marmaduke, Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes, The Far Side, The Boondocks, Helen Sweetheart of the Internet.

Oh wow I totally forget about Droopy Dog, he's definitely one of my favourites. I love his voice. Hellblazer is a very cool comic!

My favourite daily comic strip is probably The Far Side, then Calvin and Hobbes second, though both are retired now. I like comics that are more cynical and sarcastic. I do love how Marmaduke is drawn however... not just the dog himself but the whole strip, I like the style. Sometimes I view comics simply to view other people's styles, as I am a comic book artist myself.

The Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes were must-reads for me back in the day! Now I enjoy Doonesbury by Gary Trudeau. I highly recommend two books that compile a storyline about a character's return from Iraq, "The Long Road Home" and "The War Within." It's honest, wrenching, and darkly funny at times.

I liked a lot of the older Doonsbury myself. I remember reading the ones from the 91 Gulf war out of books my father had. I was very young and reading them helped me understand what had just happened. I was a strange kid eh? I used to read some manga, things people had scanned, and I used to spend some days sitting in the comic shops and bookstores around here reading whatever they had though I can't recall anything specifically. Apart from that I really like what Leiji Matsumoto has done, the Harlock comics, and Space Battleship Yamato among other things. I do remember that I used to read an online manga done by Fred Gallagher called Megatokyo, but it got too heavy for me and I stopped reading it years ago. I read more of the online comics than anything else now. Not sure if this is the right kind of thing to add but one of te ones I have been reading for a while is a gaming/tech humor online comic called Penny Arcade at http://penny-arcade.com.

Evie,

Thanks for the invite!!! I've always been a big fan of comics and cartoons. Saturday morning variety and newspaper comics. Actually as I type this, Family Guy is playing on the TV in the background. I really enjoy the adult themed satire cartoons.

I also really enjoy the comic genre movies. A lot of them I didn't know were comics originally, but my hubby set me straight. When I was a kid, girls didn't read comics. But I've gotten to be a fan of these movies.

BTW-my absolute favorite comic of all times is Bloom County (which became Outland). Opus is my hero!

Lisa

My brother-in-law has the first book of Doonesbury comics from back in the '70s -- hil-larious.

I think I also spotted an old Bloom County book on his bookshelf last time I was there...

Ah well ive done it, it only took me two days to work out how to join but ive done it now and will have a little rest now. Nugget.
