Psychology, in general, is an infant science. Many of my hard science buddies are offended by it being called a science at all. It has no official birthday, but its founding father (Freud) died less than 100 years ago. His theories were largely discredited before he died. When I research expert opinions, I often feel like I am listening to a group of gifted kindergarteners arguing over who has the tougher daddy. There does not seem to be any expert view that another expert is not putting down. Why should the still relatively new theories of PTSD or the even newer theories of cPTSD be any different?
In 1972 when I had my first therapy session, as a patient in need of healing now, I resolved to work with what was available. "Just Plain Crazy" was one of the nicer psycho labels available to a drug addicted teenaged prostitute living on the streets in 1972. The PTSD label was still 8 years away from its first ACADEMIC publication. Many label changes and theory evolutions later, I still believe healing is best achieved by not letting yourself getting lost in the labels and academic debates. Pick one and make it work. If you have a psychologist with whom you feel like you can build human a trust, work it...
Just this patient's opinion... In my personal herstory, "cPTSD" fits more comfortably than any I have worked with so far. Still working with what is available, warts and all.
