New Here
Hello All,

My name is Michelle. I'm here because I just went to counseling, after 24 years of suffering from CPTSD. So, I have been told. When I researched it, it sounded just like me. I've been diagnosed Bipolar II before, but I don't know if I believe that. I've also read up on Borderline Personality Disorder. Who knows I might have that too. I was sexually abused as a child for six years, everyday. It was part of life. I went to counseling because I was having all over burning/cold body pain and I went to a neurologist. I mentioned the sexual abuse to her and she told me it was basically in my head. I have anger issues too and I went to get them in check. With my emotions as well.

Welcome to the forum. A lot of people with complex PTSD have gotten other diagnoses, including bipolar and Borderline. So you are not alone in the confusing world of psychiatric labels! It sucks that the neurologist dismissed you. I hope you will get a second opinion. Are you still in counseling? Poke around the forum, it is a great place.

Yes, I just started the counseling 3 weeks ago. And I will also go to another Neurologist to do a sleep study.

I recently went into a Mental Hospital, and they attached Hypomania, Borderline personality disorder and Alexythymia onto my rapidly growing list of conditions, but really the only person that is going to know about trauma and the effect it has on your brain is a trauma Psycologist. My medical record collects oodles of mental health issues, when there is really only one thing that is wrong, that my brain was traumatised for 13 years and shut itself down, and that can only be fixed with masses of psycology.

Trauma can tick alot of boxes, some parts of my brain that have been recently reactivated are immature and undeveloped since 15 (29 now), so I display characteristics of BPS but that is all, it is just their way of making sense and putting a name to some of your behaviours.

I used to work in mental health and the amount of people who were labelled with everything except trauma was disgusting. Tauma has symptoms of everything, but put in an abusive history and there is tauma with a capital T. Find a trauma specialist.
