My son who is 31 has had a Hugh PTSD trauma. I have been trying to help, but I cant seem to find on a website answers to his questions. He says his breathing is so different after PTSD. it feels like his passage ways are full and therefore he only takes tiny sips of air. Hope this is making sense to you.
My son PTSD started in April 2010. He is taking Lovan20 1 per day. I need to help him with knowledge of ptsd and most of all with everything he ask me to find out. Yes he did go to a therapist, she was only interested how he was feeling, what had he been doing since last visit. We lost faith in her. He also has emotional numbing, his lips 'dry' out all the time, he drinks gallons of water. I put him on peppermint, & chamomile tea to try to elevate drinking so much water. I need help to help my son understand what has happened to him, his brain, his body, his life after PTSD.

Hi Coza, welcome :) Have you tried looking for another therapist for your son (or has he)? Just because that first one didn't help or give the answers you are looking for doesn't mean another one won't be a better help. As far as breathing; is it hurting him to take deeper breaths? For me it does hurt and I ended up being scared of breathing and still working on learning how to breathe beyond "surface breathing", but not sure what is true for him. Glad you are here and hope support and help for you and your son.

Thank you for replying Zemi, shallow breathing sounds like it, it doesn't cause pain, he says when he takes a big breath it feels like (clear- open) like vicks vapor.

He alyways looks sad, the smile has gone from his eyes, he does most things on auto. We talk for hours about the same thing usually, He is trying so hard, I tell him stop trying so hard. He feels something happened to his brain during the ptsd attack, which was very very serve. I want to take him to another therapist, but he has lost faith in everyone.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Coza,

Welcome. There is a lot of information here that you as a supporter and your son as a sufferer may find helpful. Take your time to read and post, and the support here is amazing.

Wishing you peace.
Debbie

Debbie, thanks for replying. since I'm new to this site, can you let me know where I can get the advise in helping my son! He has also told me that he dehydrates, his lips get very dry, and has a constant headache, I cant seem to find anything that will help him. He doesn't complain. Its like he is a small boy again,in certain things he does, always trying to please 'everyone'

Thank you Anthony, I shall read all the info, thank you. any suggestions why my son is still getting dehydrated, and his lips are drying out, plus he has a headache (dull) all the time. Any feed back is so very appreciated.

Coza, I'm not sure on the dehydration though I help someone will point you in the direction of help; just hoping that in time your son will risk talking to another therapist and getting help with all of this. Meanwhile, is joining the forum himself as well something he could do?

Hi Zemi, any info is appreciated, regarding PTSD dehydration, dry lips condition. I am trying to locate another therapist, just waiting on confirmation. At this stage, my son is relying on me to look for answers, he will however join when he feels able. thanks for replying.

Anthony, thank you, thank you, I didn't think of the side effects. I shall read all info. My son was thinking he was going to have another panic attack. Your reply is much appreciated.
