@Star76 do you have adequate support to go without good therapy? Perhaps looking for a trauma specialist with no connection to your family. That’s a slippery slip at best and this may be a good time to shift to a specialist that is NOT going to betray your trust. Personally, I would fire her immediately. There is zero tolerance of the therapeutic boundaries. There are laws about it, and she has broken one. Are you disabled? If you are in the USA, every state has a disability rights center that offers free legal advice. You can just google Disability Rights Agency and then put the state you’re in.

By the way... how has life been with your mother? Has she been supportive, or angry? When I finally told my mother I was sexually abused by my step grandfather, she just casually said that she knew he was a pedophile. That’s it, that’s all she’s ever said about it and has never expressed any sympathy for what happened for years. To me, this proved that I was neglected and unwanted. She is now a demented 89 year old in a swanky nursing home and I don’t bother visiting her. Her brain is gone and I don’t feel either way about it. She’s old and dying. Such is life.

Good God... I don’t mean to take the thread off topic but holy cow. She literally just casually said she knew he was a pedophile and left it there?? Damn. Cold hearted... I just wanted to say I read that and immediately felt so very sorry that she treated you that way. I would like to think she had some excuse but sometimes there just isn’t one.

No. Sorry this is wrong. If they THINK there is a risk of ongoing abuse then they have a LEGAL OBLIGATION to report. Of course, not to your mother, but certainly to the police.

Is it possible that your T believes that other children might be in danger from this abuser?

@Suzetig The therapist BREECHED confidence when she opened her mouth to the friend. It doesn’t matter WHO she told, she is unethical and should have her license revoked. No therapist should ever talk about a client. Period, full stop......

If she had concerns about safety she had a duty to contact professionals to support you, by telling a mutual friend she has acted unethically.

How did you find out about this breach of confidence? And who she told? You are seeing a psyc., this week... maybe discuss this issue?

Could she have thought you were at risk? I know here if they think you or anyone else is at risk they have to report it. I was going to say talk to a lawyer, but she'll just say you or someone else were at risk.

There's a massive difference between going through the proper channels to report an at risk situation, and talking about something a client shares with you confidentially in the therapy room with a mutual friend of the clients mother.
