The Value of Time
Perspective
(Author Unknown)

To realize the value of one year: Ask a student who has failed a final exam.

To realize the value of one month: Ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby.

To realize the value of one week: Ask an editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize the value of one hour: Ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.

To realize the value of one minute: Ask the person who has missed the train, bus or plane.

To realize the value of one second: Ask a person who has survived an accident.

"These words really help put things into perspective, to remind us what we often seem to forget, to remember what is important in life and what isn't. That life is very short, and time with loved ones precious." Source: 911 A Wake-up Call to the World - Life is Precious website

Fear not your enemies for they can only kill you.
Fear not your friends for they can only betray you.
Fear only the indifferent, who permit the killers and the betrayers
to walk safely on the earth.
-----Edward Yashinsky

We need a renaissance of wonder. We need to renew in our hearts and in our souls, the deathless dream, the eternal poetry, the perennial sense that life is miracle and magic.
-----E. Merrit Root

Many of our fears are tissue paper thin, and a single step would carry us through them.

Opportunity
(Perspective)
Lester Levenson

"The more miserable you get, the less you should look for an escape (socializing, entertainment). Rather, isolate until you see and let go of the reason for it, or move into your real Self. Never let go of -- through escape from misery -- a good opportunity to grow."

The Living and The Dead

"To the living we owe respect. To the dead we owe the truth."

This is a Gem that I'd like to enter in this thread.

In ancient times, a student of Zen [philosopy] was talking to a Zen Master.

The student said: "Master, how can I learn to be Zen? What is the answer?"

The master replied: To be Zen you must:

Eat when you eat,

Work when you work,

Relax when you relax,

And Sleep when You sleep.

The student said: "but sir, that is so simple".

The Master replied: yes, but very few people do it.

**** I added "relax when you relax" to the story, just because I like to separate the idea of sleeping from relaxing.-Rob T.

This is a proverb that I try to do, but it can be D*mn hard for me sometimes....when I work or relax I like to throw in lots of ideas, or see too many tv shows, or [see too many websites or things too quickly] and mess up my relaxation time.

I guess I just keep practicing + trying to do the ideas in this proverb. It's all good.

Wishing you all a Good Day,

Peace + Love Guys,

Rob

Here's a Great quote:

"Any Idiot can handle a crisis,

It is day-to-day living that wears you out."

-This is from an unknown author.

Rob T., Hey thanks for sharing the Proverb and the quote. Two things come to mind. First, that your continued awareness and practice of the principle behind the Proverb is the goal-oriented action that gets you closer to achieving this Zen art form. Very good. I use to practice, in the areas that I have most of my difficulty these days -relaxation and present focus and then I'd up and forgot the whole concept. So I really appreciate you sharing this here with us too. Second, the quote: Ain't that truthful !

Hope
