If I'd known how long I was going to live, I would've taken better care of myself. ... ..... !

Celebrate What is Constant :thumbs-up
(Journey)
James Baldwin

It is the responsibility of free men to trust and to celebrate what is constant - birth, struggle, and death are constant - and so is love, though we may not always think so - and to apprehend the nature of change, to be able and willing to change.

I speak of change not on the surface but in the depths - change in the sense of renewal. But renewal becomes impossible if one supposes things to be constant that are not - safety, for example, or money, or power. One clings then to chimeras (fantasies), by which one can only be betrayed, and the entire hope - the entire possibility - of freedom disappears.

Letter to Danny
(Values)
Bill Cuff

To Little Danny:

We approached you with sadness and you gave us back joy.

We wished that you could move like us, but you are so much closer to our destination.

We hoped that you could speak like us but you have spoken so much more profoundly.

We wanted you to be more like us and now we want to be more like you.

We call you Little Danny, but we don't have your vision.

Each time we say Little Danny, let it be a reminder of how much harder we must work with our shallow eyes to see the truth.

Love, Bill

Contributed to "Gold Nuggets," by Tim Churchard

Tim's comments: Little Danny, who is not so little now, has been totally disabled since birth. Danny is the focal point of "Danny's Team," a group of people around Rochester and Durham, NH who are dedicated to providing research and services to persons who are "challenged" in one form or another.

To Laugh is to Risk
(Commitment)
Anonymous

To laugh is to risk appearing the fool,
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental,
To reach out for another is to risk involvement,
To expose our feelings is to risk exposing our true self,
To place your ideas and dreams before the crowd is to risk loss,
To love is to risk not being loved in return,
To live is to risk dying.
To hope is to risk despair,
To try at all is to risk failure,
But risk we must, because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
The man, the woman who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.

In Humor There is Truth
(Humor)
Ralph Nader

In humor, there is truth. We need to take humor more seriously.

Thought I'd link another quote/reading from "Gold Nuggets", Readings for Experiential Education. This one I just love reading! I placed it here: [DLMURL]http://www.ptsdforum.org/24169-post13.html[/DLMURL] . Worthwhile reading and humorous, but a little to long for Diamonds in the Rough.

Pursuit of Excellence

The pursuit of excellence is gratifying and healthy. The pursuit of perfection is frustrating and neurotic. It's also a terrible waste of time.

OMG!!!! This could have been written for me! I look back at all of the time of my life I've wasted trying to be perfect (wife, mother, you name it) and can't believe I did it. Silver lining-at least I'm not wasting any more time trying for perfection...happiness is more than enough of a goal.
