L.A.Times Quote of the day - priceless

Dianne Feinstein: "All vets are mentally ill in some way, and
government should prevent them from owning firearms."
Yep, - she really said it on Thursday in a meeting in front of the
Senate Judiciary Committee.... and the quote below from the LA Times
is priceless. Sometimes even the L.A. Times gets it right!!!

Quote of the Day from the Los Angeles Times: PRICELESS!!!
"Frankly, I don't know what it is about California, but we seem to
have a strange urge to elect really obnoxious women to high office.
I'm not bragging, you understand, but no other state, including Maine,
even comes close. When it comes to sending left-wing dingbats to
Washington, we're Number One. There's no getting around the fact
that the last time anyone saw the likes of Barbara Boxer, Dianne
Feinstein, Maxine Waters, and Nancy Pelosi, they were stirring a
cauldron when the curtain went up on ' Macbeth '. The four of them
are like jackasses who happen to possess the gift of blab. You don't
know if you should condemn them for their stupidity or simply marvel
at their ability to form words."

Columnist Burt Prelutsky,
Los Angeles Times

Be sure to forward this to all of the "mentally ill" vets you know.
Especially the ones with guns...

Well, I had to be mentally ill, or drunk, or both!

At the time I thought bellbottoms and funny hats were a cool thing to wear.

This accusation about Feinstein is bogus. Factcheck.org analyzed exactly what she said and the fact is she did not say that all military veterans are mentally ill and should ne be allowed to own guns.

http://www.factcheck.org/2013/04/twisting-feinsteins-words-on-military-vets/

Combat veterans, crime victims, survivors of natural disasters and others who experienced traumatic events have long suffered from symptoms of what we now know as PTSD.According to the National Institutes of Health, PTSD was officially recognized in 1980 “as a disorder with specific symptoms,” and it was added to the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. A 1990 study found 15 percent of all Vietnam veterans were suffering from PTSD.

But Cornyn and others have misrepresented her remarks. After Feinstein spoke, Cornyn had this exchange with the committee chairman, Democratic Sen. Pat Leahy of Vermont.

Cornyn, March 7: I think it’s a mistake to paint so broadly as to say that any active duty military or veterans can’t use these kinds of weapons or any other lawful weapons for self-defense, and certainly I wouldn’t want to suggest that we think people who served in the military all suffer from some debilitating illness that would prohibit them from being able to defend themselves.

Leahy: That suggestion has not been made by anybody on either side of the aisle here.

Leahy is right. Feinstein did not say that “people in the military all suffer from some debilitating illness,” and she did not say that they “can’t use … any other lawful weapons.” She was clearly talking about a subset of veterans (not all of them) and certain guns (assault weapons prohibited under her bill) when she expressed concerns about a gun seller being able to verify that there is “no impairment of that individual with respect to having a weapon like this.” (The emphasis is our own.)

Nice work vikingr24,

When something is incorrect it needs to said and put out in the open, as TRUTH!!!

However Feinstein did say "The problem with expanding this is that, you know, with the advent of PTSD, which I think is a new phenomenon as a product of the Iraq War". So that in it's self makes her a dumb ass. (She knows all about Vietnam)

As you know from your link, here is the quote that says the same thing.

"First, Feinstein is wrong when she says that post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, “is a new phenomenon as a product of the Iraq War.”

Combat veterans, crime victims, survivors of natural disasters and others who experienced traumatic events have long suffered from symptoms of what we now know as PTSD. According to the National Institutes of Health, PTSD was officially recognized in 1980 “as a disorder with specific symptoms,” and it was added to the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Note: I for one do not like the Bitch!!!!

I had heard that before. Let's face it the news is twisted. It's a show, about ratings, and getting people to watch. It's not really news when the first 'big' story of the day is who won the masters.

Feinstein admits her mistake about Iraq being the first war that had PTSD, but she is right in the sense that it was first recognized as more than battle fatigue. The term PTSD has been around before that time but not really manifested until we saw our youth coming home and taking their own life in far too
many cases. Feinstein is not on my list of favorites but she has done a lot for the armed services. I would say the same of Lindsey Graham.

These days are not full of heroes as we have had in the past. Of course, we all look back with rose colored glasses.

People and the media create heroes. Guys in combat don't think, 'I'm gonna' be a hero' they just do what has to be done. If a general sees that the guy gets a medal.

OK, a story..........stop your whining. I knew a guy from motor T was out doin' his job when they started to mortar the road he was on. He got out of his truck, a 6by and got underneath thinking he might be safer. OK, he's a Marine, do I need to say more. So....he realizes that he's no safer and gets back in his truck and finishes his run to hill 55. When he gets there there's a full bird col and a bunch of adjutants all cheering him. The Col says, 'Son that was the bravest thing I ever saw, you fixin' your truck under fire. I'm issuing you a Bronze Star for that'. Well, my friend just keep his mouth shut and got his medal. Funny story but true.

The point, heroes, was he one, no. Are there some, probably many. But only when someone see what they do. Heroes are a myth created by a society that needs that kind of thing. The real ones just do what they must no matter what. I've been fortunate to know more than a few. Not here often but always here in spirit.

Well the last time I checked, over 180,000 Vietnam Vets have taken their own life. That number has also been going up with the older Nam guys giving up. Note: this is an aprox. number and don't forget a lots of years....Just something to think about.

Oh, a year or so ago, there were around 800,000+ Nam Vets alive. I read somewhere a few months ago, we are now down to less than 700,000. Age, AO and suicide has a lot to do with this. Seems that most of us are not making it to 70. We are going a hell of a lot faster than the WW2 Vets.......

I have seen friends of mine waste away from Agent Orange. One 82nd trooper had burns all up and down his arms and legs from contact with it. And the sad part is, he was younger than I, and had Alzheimer's. I watched him literally waste away and die too young.

He had PTSD of course. But he handled it well. We were watch buddies in the neighborhood. I was over at his house many times just to listen and try to be friend for him. His wife did not have a clue and left him.

I have lost 8 friends to AO in less than 6 months.....Sucks big time. Sorry you lost your friend Brother.......I was doing a lot of work on the house for my wife, just in case I got called, thinking I would go first. The only thing keeping me going is my Daughter, I am trying to put some $$$ away for her to help her get by on. Hard to live on $11 bucks an hour.

My body has just to many miles on it, not much I can do any more unless I am setting down. I just turned 64 last March,
