Research Dissociation: An Insufficiently Recognized Major Feature Of Complex Ptsd

Here in Germany, the doctors in the clinic I was in didn't even see that I was suffering from trauma because I wasnt having visual intrusive flashbacks and just diagnosed me as having an "emotional and instable personality disorder"...

Yes, this happened to me. No PTSD dx for 25 years because I didn't have visual flashbacks.

I don't want the BS that it's my fault for not telling doctors my symptoms. (General rant, not at anyone in particular!) I was traumatized at such a young age that my mind wasn't developed enough to know it was a trauma. The numerous child psychologists I saw should have suspected SOMETHING but they didn't. Since childhood Ive seen dozens of therapists/psychiatrists and 90% plus don't ask the right questions. Simply asking a patient their symptoms is NOT adequate as there are those of us who have lived with symptoms our entire lives and as such think they're normal. I think I've gone on enough of a tangent here, but wanted to respond to this particular response.

I so agree with you. What is normal for me growing up was not normal for the rest of America or England or any other civilized country. I was considered rare so had special treatment. But for me, that was normal. In this day and age (60 years later) it is very abnormal. I lived in a orphange for a year. The best year of my young life. At a reunion, the other girls from my dorm said it was the worse time of their lives. Prospective.

These past few years I've been working with the Master's Program and helping answer questions for those who are trying to help others. At least I know my life was not for nothing. I am grateful I've been able to help those whom no one else knows how to help.

I have PTSD. I experience dissociation sometimes. Mostly in public places, like work. My therapist and I work on grounding methods to reduce my symptoms and it seem to be effective at times.

Congratulation, TeelRain. I'm happy you got a good therapist who is teaching you grounding methods. In time it will be automatic and you'll go longer and longer without these symptoms.
