Do you take an antidepressant?

After a car accident, I had severe symptoms of ptsd. But doc wanted to label me depressed even though I wasn't. I was given zoloft and told there are NO side effects. I had "something invisible trying to make me harm myself" and stopped taking zoloft as there was NO benefit. Went in for follow up appt. Doc asked me pointedly when prescribing and again at follow up if I were suicidal. She put me on paxil at follow up. Still did not warn me. Still no benefit. I quit that one also. Never told by doc to taper. When I was well enough, I had someone tell me about side effect of suicidality and did research. More recent study has shown that they are no more effective than a placebo. Who would be willing to take the risk when they are no more effective than a placebo? I agree with Tornadic Thoughts on diet being greatest benefit. I am on a plant based diet. I am taking supplements. When I don't get my supplements, I lose what little energy I have. My ptsd has been worsened by severe Legal Abuse Syndrome. I do not think I would be alive if I had stayed on those %%$@$% ssri's or if I did not change my diet and take supplements. There is a new documentary called What the Health. I have heard very good things about it. You might want to watch that.

I was on Doxepin, Efexor, Mirtazapin and some other. They all made things worse. I switched my P doc and he put me on SSRI (Citalopram first then Escitalopram). It helps a lot. I tried to taper off a few times when I felt I'm doing good though but it didn't work out so well.

I am back on low dose of sertraline for depression and pregabalin for anxiety. I had a three year break off all meds and was on sertraline for three years before that.

It makes life much more tolerable. I had another breakdown a few .months ago and since going back on meds I've felt better. The pregabalin has improved my sleep massively. I was a chronic insominac before.

I do get some side effects. Pregabalin makes me dozey, especially when first started. And one of the meds is making me put on weight. So I've tried to adjust my diet and get more exercise (which has resulted in Achilles tendonitis!! Just can't win). And I've tried to cut back on pregabalin, but doing so has resulted in sleeping problems again.

But I'm better off on medication. I was thinking a lot about suicide beforehand and could barely function at work.

I hope that when I can afford to see a good psychologist I can try and come all meds again and stay off.

I am taking Effexor for anxiety and depression which for now keeps me stable. I am going back into CBT therapy soon. I hope to taper off the Effexor later on. I would prefer to be on no medications at all at this point. I also take Trazedone and Risperdone for a sleep aid and not to remember any of my nightmares which has worked well so far.

I don't take any medication other than occasionally over tge counter sleeping tablets.

I agreed to try anti depressants one time. Took them for 2 months. Worst time of my life.
Most suicidal I've ever felt.
Felt so physical sick I barely got out of bed the whole 2 months.

I take Zoloft. Works great, no side effects for me. I was on Paxil for awhile, but it didn't seem to work very well, so back to Zoloft. No problems switching. I take Buspar for anxiety. My life sucks without Zoloft.

I just started escitalopram today for out of control anxiety and panic attacks (my usual coping strategies were not working.) The side effects are unpleasant. Feel a little nauseous, agitated, shaky...just weird!
