After a car accident, I had severe symptoms of ptsd. But doc wanted to label me depressed even though I wasn't. I was given zoloft and told there are NO side effects. I had "something invisible trying to make me harm myself" and stopped taking zoloft as there was NO benefit. Went in for follow up appt. Doc asked me pointedly when prescribing and again at follow up if I were suicidal. She put me on paxil at follow up. Still did not warn me. Still no benefit. I quit that one also. Never told by doc to taper. When I was well enough, I had someone tell me about side effect of suicidality and did research. More recent study has shown that they are no more effective than a placebo. Who would be willing to take the risk when they are no more effective than a placebo? I agree with Tornadic Thoughts on diet being greatest benefit. I am on a plant based diet. I am taking supplements. When I don't get my supplements, I lose what little energy I have. My ptsd has been worsened by severe Legal Abuse Syndrome. I do not think I would be alive if I had stayed on those %%$@$% ssri's or if I did not change my diet and take supplements. There is a new documentary called What the Health. I have heard very good things about it. You might want to watch that.
