Do You Tell People You Have Ptsd?

I've been getting involved in a local Neighborhood Assoc since we have been having a lot of burglaries. Several of the Members want me to go to the meetings (I hate crowds) and help out.

I think many don't understand that I prefer email or posts on the sites. I went to the last meeting but I snuck in and left quickly at the end. It created a ton of anxiety. It didn't help that I very seriously pissed off the treasurer. I wasn't even trying but I feared a confrontation and my anxiety overriding good behavior.

Do I tell them the reason for my anxiety or just let them think I'm odd?

Do you tell people? Do you tell anyone? My family doesn't even know.

In an instance like this, yes I would let them know.
But I do let people know, like if it comes up or someone surprises you, ect.

I've been open about it on my FB page. I feel people need to see another side to PTSD, i.e., someone who is kind and peaceful and wants to get along with everyone. That's how I try to be.

Well there is the stigma attached. Many of these neighbors are older and may be less likely to understand.

Try them...they deserve a chance. They might surprise you.

I'm learning to share, it's a process for sure. Mostly, people seem unsure, but try to listen and understand. But I'm selective because I need to know them a little.

Honestly Bill in situations involving work you like to do and it's at risk because of people's misperceptions, I wouldn't say shit. The FAA will force me to disclose in the future but except for true friends. I say nothing unless 1000%mandatory and not saying is a Federal Crime.

More often recently I am open about having ptsd. I think for me I had just completely had it with trying to pretend to be normal!

Also though it hurts to be on the receiving end of prejudice, I think since accepting no one can be liked by everyone, and so not needing to be liked, then I'm more likely ti think I'm better off without prejudiced people in my life anyway.

Give them a chance huh....I normally just hate everybody it saves time and then they can't disappoint.

Even though I'm very socially anxious I still want to connect with others. It's not easy
