Military Does A Marine Refer To His Branch Of Military As The Army?

Can he pick up ESPN on that thing if he stands on the roof and points it in the right direction?
I wonder if he makes sure to line his hat with tin foil so the government (or who ever is controlling the leg) can't plant their own ideas there? :wideeyed:
Oh my...I just checked in for a short visit. But now I'm sittin' here, at 3:09 a.m. and I'm laughing my ass off!:roflmao:

@Antespaz, I'm really sorry, that this lying jerk hurt you so deeply. But I also think it doesn't matter what's wrong with that guy, just turn your back on him and please don't you look back to that liar, ever! You deserve much, much more than just a lying ***hole who treats you so badly! You deserve to be loved, respected, and very well treated. You deserve honesty and decency and again: respect. Don't underestimate that. There's no such thing as "love without being respected". And a man who lies to you, for whatever reason, doesn't respect you, nor truly has your best interest at heart! Oh, and please don't blame yourself, for him being and behaving like an idiot. You did nothing wrong. Nothing at all, okay?

It's great you came here and asked. I'd say, that takes courage! Maybe we could help a tiny little bit, to set your mind at peace. And hopefully, later on, the chuckle about our "conspiracy theories", is all, you'll remember... All the best to you!

It runs both ways with the Army/Marines thing... we're an Army family, so you don't want to know how many times I've heard that "Marine" stands for "My Ass Rides in Naval Equipment"... Of course I've heard tell that soldiers "Ain't Really Men Yet".

I'd believe the satellite leg thing before I'd believe a service member not being specific about their branch!

Thank you for your kind words. He was the first person I dated after my 20 year marriage. He was so beautiful inside and out and just truly truly amazing. It crushed me to pieces when he left me so quickly like he did. I actually called in sick to work for two days because I was so sad I couldn't get out of bed. I still cry almost every night about him. But I back on bits and pieces of conversations we Ted and realize so very many lies that he told me. He told me stories for hours and we laughed together and even sometimes cry together. Now I realize the majority of them were all fairy tales all made up. What is complete a****** he is. I actually feel so sorry for him he probably is very mentally unstable. Again thank you for your kind words I appreciate it

You're very welcome dear @Antespaz! You know, I can't help but think, that you might have fallen prey to a narcissist... Or at least an egomaniac liar with narcissist traits. As these two statements would describe such a "phenomenon" at best:
he was honestly the most amazing man I've ever met. Gentle tender loving caring you name it the perfect package.
He was so beautiful inside and out and just truly truly amazing. It crushed me to pieces when he left me so quickly like he did.
Since I have my own nice history (I divorced my abuser), I still try to come to terms with what resp. who he really was. I found something quite interesting on the web, yesterday. It's maybe worth to look into it? (@mods: I hope it's okay to post that link, as I don't have any connections or other interests to that person's blog, of whom the link refers to). You have to scroll down a bit, after you clicked on the particular topic she writes about.

I also found this one very helpful and (at least for me) a real eye opener. Its about "Narcissist Traits":

Have you ever watched the movie "True Lies"? If yes, do you remember that idiot (second-hand-car-dealer) who tried to get Arnolds wife into bed, by telling her, that he's a secret agent? (Unfortunately, she was portrayed as a naive woman, and that's definitely not, what you are, okay gal?) And do you remember, what they did to him, to teach him a lesson, and that he pissed himself, because he was so afraid of them? That's exactly what that guy you met reminds me of! If you didn't watch that movie already, I'd suggest to get yourself some comfy food, make yourself comfortable and just watch and laugh. Maybe look it up at youtube? A good laugh also helps to heal your wounds. And if you need to "talk", we're here, okay?:)

As the daughter, and now girlfriend, of a Marine, I can tell you that not only do they NOT refer to themselves as anything other than Marines, they also get offended if you call them Soldier or any other terminology that implies another branch of the military besides their beloved Corps.

Also, there is no way he would have been stationed for 14 consecutive years in a combat zone. They would have sent him back stateside periodically. My vet spent almost 2 decades in the Marine Corps and he was only deployed 4 times (totaling maybe 8 years max) to combat zones.

Now... while I do agree with everyone that it is a good idea for you to walk away, based on what you've told us (that he's lied to you several times); I also feel that it is not possible to truly judge a person's character based on a few sentences.

To play devil's advocate here, I'd like to provide possible explanations for the behavior...

If your guy has both PTSD and a TBI, he might be having issues with memory or cognitive function. My guy can remember details of a lot of things but for him dates and timelines get all screwed up. The last 5 things he told me all took place "6 months ago" which I know wasn't really the case. One was 6 weeks ago, so if he does have TBI, just take it with a grain of salt.

There are areas in the Military where members of one branch work within another branch. I have a friend who is Navy, and met his wife (who is a Marine) while serving as her Corpsman (A Hospital Corpsman is an enlisted medical specialist of the United States Navy who serves with the U.S. Navy and the United States Marine Corps.).

Could your guy have been in the Army, but stationed in a joint operation with a Marine Corps Battalion? Could he have been in the Army for a time, but decided to join the Marines instead of just re-upping with the Army? I know that Vets can get defensive if you call them out on something that they made a mistake on. They're embarrassed that they messed it up and doubly so that we've "thrown it in their face" so to speak. I could see his "Army is a generic term..." comment as a defensive tactic to shut you up about it and take the focus off him.

As for the "Satellite Controlled Prosthetic" he may be poorly communicating that to you (again think TBI - maybe he's not explaining it right). Have you seen his prosthesis? In this case, it doesn't refer to the ones in the sky. That verbiage is used to describe prosthesis in which there are neuro-muscular implants that allow the brain (satellite) to send messages to the prosthetic limb (that I believe the doctors have to attach, they can't just take it on and off) in the same manner as our regular limbs function. If you Google Search on the quoted text from the start of my paragraph here, you will actually get multiple articles to read on that subject. However, I haven't found one about Veterans receiving such prostheses. I have found articles indicating that DARPA is doing a lot of research on neural engineering, but I'm not sure they're there yet.

Anyway, just my two cents (or twenty in this case :p).

The press likes to refer to anyone serving in the military as a soldier, but people in the military don't. Marines usually hate to be reminded that they're not even a department unto themselves, they are part of the Department of the Navy. Like others have said, they're not going to accidentally say they were in the Army, however, the satellite controlled leg is a sure giveaway that this guy is a pathological liar, even if you're not clued into the difference between the Army and the Navy, I mean the Marines....

Was in the US Army (Active) and my stepfather was in the US Marine Corps.
