Does Anyone Experience Types Of Head Tension?

Not like head aches. Tension. Like your head is pulsating. Unusual head clinching or tightness on the side and top. Between the eyes and up the middle of my forehead. Hell just anything unusual in the cranial area. I'm experiencing these symptoms that know one has ever heard of or can seem to explain. That includes my Pdoc, therepist, 2 GP's, 2 neurologists, 2 ENT's, 3 different types of chiropractors, and an acupuncture specialist. It feels like either my nerves are causing a stuck sensation or its the muscle pulling down. Anyone have similar symptoms? I'll take anything regarding this subject. I can't be the only person on earth that has experienced this symptom.

Its really hard to know if it is similar or not as I am wondering why all the experts are puzzled.

I have had what often feels like a metal band around my head and above the ears and across the middle of the forehead is common place for me to get it. I have been off school and suffered with similar stuff since about 14 at the oldest. And I guess because of that I don't really question it that much. I have had to go to emergency in the middle of the night before to do with my head.

I have never considered it being anything other than muscle issues though. And from what you describe yours is probably very different otherwise I would imagine the professionals would have told you it is likely stress related.

The tightness on the side I have found is greatly exacerbated by both clenching and grinding of teeth and what I describe as the equivalent of cocking ones ears. Its a subtle concept to get but think of a deer cocking its ears looking for predators. Enough muscle tension also causes a variety of other things such as dizziness and a wet-cottonwool-in-the-head feeling. This probably doesn't help you but I thought I would share.

I have what feels like tension headaches, but I'm not sure if it's the same as yours. Have you tried cranial-sacral massage/ bodywork? It can have positive effects on both headaches and trauma issues. However you find it, I hope you get some relief.

Thank you for the replies so far. As far as the professionals I have seen... they don't understand what I am trying to describe. Like they are incapable of thinking outside of the box or are way to confident in their ability to diagnose. Some don't understand beyond "by the book." When I first went in I thought it was fairly common. Couldn't have been more wrong.

Hm, my head pain is kind of like my whole head being in a too-small leather hood. I have actually had the literal experience so I do know that it is similar. :)

And my neck hurts like mad all the time but I think it is because I look down too much for typing. :)

Does yours sound very different to what I described cdg? What I have is fairly common I believe. I have heard many people discuss similar symptoms at least to an extent. Could it be because you are continuing to ask that they are undecided? What I mean by that is that if someone keeps coming back then medical professionals are always going to consider the possibility of something different. But it seems noone has ever said to you it probably muscle tension/stress related. ?

I think most people who are this way inclined start early and so just accept and I think it is those who have a sudden change or onset in their lives that question it more. From what I have seen anyway. I was in group which dealt with a subject that made the topic come up.

Please ignore if you think I am off track here.

If you want to try one more professional I would try a physiotherapist. They are very thoroughly medically trained and deal with muscle symptoms all the time.

There are actually some times where I feel it is not only my head that feels like that but a large part of my body.

It feels like something is clamped down so to speak. It is stuck in this position. It happened as a result of extreme flight or flight. It starts between my eyes, up through my forehead, over the top middle right side. Almost feels like some body laid a rope on the top of my brain and is pulling it down from the top of my gum line.

Does it change slightly or is it always exactly on a particular area? The whole upper face or a band the whole way around head and face including cheekbones?

It doesn't change. It seems to pop. I guess a sort of unraveling. Its slowly releasing I guess. Its at a snails pace. My nervous system obviously doesn't like it. It sort of jerks at it like its trying to move it out of there. It has to have something to do with the sympathetic nerve.

Its not a tension that comes and goes. Its like something up there has stayed in the on position. When the nerves went into fight or flight they stayed clinched. When I talk to those professional they don't understand the description. Since I'm a special case... motivation is tough to find. I have also tried to describe it in different ways. The neurologists are the worst. If its not a blip on the MRI then they are done. $2000 later. The ENT did sinus surgery. As soon I woke up it felt exactly the same. He was all in there. Nothing. Its terribly discouraging. Its coming from my brain.
