Yup, I noticed that, too, Eve. I hope and pray it's a sign of things to come for him. And after seeing Elizabeth Warren give that stunning speech yesterday? She is incredible! I would much rather it would be a Warren-Clinton ticket than the other way around, but I loved how she gave that last answer to Rachel last night. She is ready. No doubt about it. Smart, tough, and capable. Just what we need. It's definitely time two very strong, smart, and capable women lead this country.

Blah, I told myself I wouldn't post this, but I am so enthusiastic I can't resist. Just at the time we are facing the worst possible presidential candidate ever, ever, EVER, we have two of the best on the other side. (Yeah, I know I'm counting my chickens before they hatch. Hillary may choose Sherrod, which certainly wouldn't be bad, but it wouldn't be as exciting as if she chose Warren.) In any case, if we Americans blow this one, we only have ourselves to blame. And a whole lot of unbelievable crap to deal with for at least the next four years, which will affect not only us but the rest of the world. And it could take decades to recover. Make no mistake.

So true, Eve.

I never would have imagined there would be a Republican presidential candidate that even Republicans would back away from (I thought they'd back away from W. on purely intellectual reasons, but, no), but this guy has that distinction. Seems no one can rein him in and they're all being held hostage in a sense, of their own choosing or inability to choose, however. It's awful that this is happening, but it really does seem that the Republican Party has done this to itself. Obama and others are right -- we need two strong, valid and viable political parties in this country. We now have one. The GOP is slowly but surely self-destructing as I write this. It's not good. I've never been a Republican and never would be (unless it turned back into the party of Lincoln), but it is not good for any of us that it is in the sorry state it is in. In the short term, yeah, it's probably good in that we're almost ensured that another Democrat will be our next president and also that Democrats may retake the Senate and even the House, but long-term? The GOP needs to get its shit together and become American again. Maybe even review the Constitution, oh, just for the heck of it.

He's a businessman. Hate and ignorance are an easy commodity to trade in: there's always lots to be found.

My biggest fear about Trump is that underneath that blowhard sloppy 'I don't give a f*ck' exterior, he is hiding a real intelligence and cunning. I hope at least that what we see is what he is. Because if he's not - if he's truly an intelligent strategist - then he really is a sociopath, and infinitely more dangerous (if such a thing were possible).

I met Trump about a decade ago. I think people seriously underestimate how manipulative he really is. He's no dummy... He is impulsive, but very calculating. I was personally freaked out and my family remembers me telling them about him back then as a very charismatic and dangerous person.

Plus, I think the real issue isn't Trump alone. Trump could be the most cunning sociopath around, but sociopaths tend not to be as able to take advantage of people when they are in healthy systems or groups of people.

The American people have been presented with endless evidence of how awful he is, and yet so many are giving him their support. Americans could not be getting more warnings about him, and yet they still choose him. Foolishly.

Trump is well able to work with people - which rules out ASPD. If you listen to some of Otto Kernberg's lectures, he's quite clear that sociopaths are not capable of the interpersonal alliance building to get to that level in politics or business. Kernberg has people like Hitler and Churchill down as narcs

DSM 5 has done us a favour by dis aggregating the previously far too broad "Anti Social" and reinstating psychopathy as a stand alone diagnosis.

I think he's somewhere in the area of psychopathic narc or (very) narcissistic psychopath.

... tend not to be as able to take advantage of people when they are in healthy systems or groups of people.
YES!

Hence the attempts at divide and rule.

I'm keeping it zipped about the mass shooting itself until I know more,

Whatever the cause of this, or any other mass shooting
(we know for a hard fact that a mass shooting in Belgian supermarket in the mid 1980s was a creature of the secret services (check the three part 1992 BBC documentary about operation gladio), we also know with reasonable certainty that the blowing up of apartment blocks in Moscow was the action of Russian secret services - Alexander Litvinienko was fed polonium for divulging that bit of information to us)
they are used to make us fear our neighbours, and to cosy up to the institution of state, in the hope of a little safety

Policies of divide and rule, and highlighting and even exaggerating the risk from our fellow peons, while downplaying the risks from state, leave us far more open to being manipulated by demagogues.

There is nothing that we are seeing blamed on "Islam" now that hasn't been seen before in the Christian or the statist faiths
