Dr. Won't Refill Prazosin Because It's A Controlled Substance?

So my GP moved/retired and a new Dr took his place. The new Dr is refusing to prescribe me anyone prazo...
May I suggest marijuana? I do not know for certain whether or not CBD only marijuana or low THC marijuana, or another type would be appropriate for nightmares, as I am doing my own research. But I see that I take ACDC. It is %1 THC and %20 CBD. THC is psychoactive. ACDC is the strain. I don't know if you already use weed but if not then you could consider it. I have smoked %5 THC weed with oxycodone, up to 5mg before with no ill effects, but I hear this is dangerous, and combining it with Prozasin would be dangerous as it could cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure. I don't combine it with alcohol, because it makes me feel really weird. Caffeine probably gives me nightmares but I love it so much! Lorazepam (Ativan) made me have a vidid dream or hallucination, that feet were poking out of the doorway, kicking once! So benzodiazepines, which can cause alzchiemer's I might add, (they are finding out 5mg lorazapem, a short acting benzodiazepine, causes Alzcheimer's in %80 of patients, or so it seems. And it is likely attributed directly to use of this drug!) can cause nightmares. I think.

Prozasin helps me not have nightmares, but tonight once I'm alone, if I'm not self-conscious, I am going to use the low THC weed. Hopefully its high CBD content will not keep me awake. I want to sleep without nightmares. So I imaging less caffeine is really the way to go.

I dumped that Dr. right after I wrote this.

I don't use Marijuana for 1 main reason. It's a trigger for me. My abusers used it heavy and the room always smelled heavily of marijuana during my abuse. I tried it once when I was about 15 and it sent me into severe panic and paranoia. I personally have no interest in trying it ever again, as I freak out if I even smell it. If it works for others though, great.

This is just compounded by the fact that typing is so painful for me nowadays due too the joint pain
Just wanted to share - I'm having some good success with gabapentin (neurontin) - The quality of sleep is good, and it's doing double duty by also calming down what I think is restless leg syndrome.

Gabapentin is often used for neuralgic pain of all varieties - I don't recall what your joint pain is from, but it made me think that gabapentin might be worth a try. For sleep it's quite a low dose - I'm only taking 300mg at bedtime. Prazosin got tough for me because my blood pressure is already on the low side, and I've been through most of the other usual suspects. I was skeptical about the gabapentin, but am pleased with how it's working out.

Just a thought.

Interesting. My joint issues are a result of autoimmune and damage caused from severe vitamin deficiencies, I wonder if it would help with that? I will ask my Dr. Low blood pressure is the biggest issue I have with Prazosin.

Definitely talk to your doctor. Gabapentin is used for some autoimmune disorders. It's one of those 'no-one really knows how it works, but it works in lots of different circumstances' drugs - so who knows what your doc will say. But it's for sure prescribed for sleep, for pain, and for a handful of other things.

Glad you got a new doctor, cracker jack quacks are such a pain in the ass.

Takes literally two seconds to search for the drug in the physicians med net service. 8+ years of med school doesn't mean you get to be stubborn and lazy.

Wonder what else this doctor gets mixed up? .......
  • Sir, you are having nausea in the morning? Well according to your waist line, I believe you are about 4 months pregnant.
  • I inspected your urine sample under the light, I believe the cause of your malaise to be from an imbalance of the humours. Turn from side to side every 2 hours while sleeping, this will balance the heat of the liver.
  • What the hell is that!??....... oh... you're a woman.... Huh... that's the first one of those I've ever seen, and I've been married for 12 years. Guess you really can't learn everything fumbling around in the dark, huh?
  • What the hell is that!!?? Oh yeah. Women have two of those don't they?...
  • Sir, next time you feel a heart attack coming on, take a... what was it called again? Oh yeah, a Viagra. What do you mean I'm wrong? I'm a doctor.... What do you mean Aspirin? That's nonsense, those are for headaches, not heart attacks. Good thing you don't have a doctorate.
  • What do you mean it's turned black and smells bad? I keep telling you. Wash it, with soap. It can't be gangrene, you said yourself that it's black, not green.
  • Ok, now let's deliver this baby.... What is it nurse?.... What do you mean they don't come out of there?
Glad you got a new doctor, hopefully a competent one.

@Neverthesame :hilarious: That actually sounds a lot like him. At the time, my car (now nonoperational) had a power steering fluid leak. I ended up spilling power steering fluid all over myself. Within the first few minutes of meeting, he told me I smelled like cat piss. Hey, maybe I did, but I certainly couldn't smell it over the fumes from the power steering fluid covering my cloths. Yes, that went into the official complaint I filled against him. As well as giving me a placebo for pain.

Having worked on cars for years, I can tell you power steering fluid, smells nothing like cat urine.

Good thing he didn't try to get you set up for an IV of 5W30.

Good job, reporting him.

I miss the days when you didn't have to follow up with fact checking your physician after each visit.
