Memories of traumatic events often last a lifetime because they are so difficult to treat through behavioral approaches. A preclinical study reveals that drugs known as histone deacetylase inhibitors can enhance the brain's ability to permanently replace old traumatic memories with new memories, opening promising avenues for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder and other anxiety disorders.

I think they're on drugs continuing to try and use drugs to alter memory. The past has already dictated... they're full of shit and they aren't that powerful to change strong emotional memory. Why do they keep trying to use drugs for this?
 
I'm laughing at one month ago being a "long time ago." Yes, I realize that rats have a much shorter lifespan, but I don't think that one can equate one month ago in a rat to 20 years ago (for example), in a human.
