Why not Plumbbob
That would be very

(It's basically using nukes as space propulsion, this was a test of the thunderwell! :) )

@Chimera
Persistance :P

Well, up till now they managed to nearly launch a manhole cover into space, making it the fastest man made object, destroying a record of a space probe :p BAsically, a nuke exploded, the cover flew off and burned up in the atmosphere because of the extremely high speeds. Achieved with the combination of nuke's expansion and the expansion of vapourized metal.

BUt yea, strap them onto the rocket, make it extra long, and launch them faster than radiation can get to them

Oh, wait, apparently it was going too fast to burn up in the atmosphere!

Soviets may have gotten the first space satellite, but look, this dude nuked a manhole cover into space! And probably made it escape earth, as it launched with 5x escape velocity

Unfortunately, the *CLASSIFIED* data is not accessible, and only things left are written reports and some pictures.

The manhole cover was only visible in about 2 frames, and only partially, and it was shot with a 1000 FPS camera
