Hi All,
Just to share my experience with EMDR: I've done two rounds after a bunch of prep sessions. The first session was by a long shot the most painful experience of any therapy session; and by pain I mean cathartic in a sense. It brought back my father's death and the abuse I received as a kid. This treatment is in my opinion not for everyone and it takes courage and a lot of support. The second session was less intense but I began to remember ages 4-9 which was profoundly difficult and my social skills and sleep patterns were definitely worse. That said, this treatment has saved my life. After these two sessions already, I feel not "cured" or "euphoric", but able to process my pain better. I am certainly sad, but I have hope and optimism which for people in out situation is rare. I'm feeling more like a normal person and not as hard on myself. I am a huge advocate for this treatment. Best to all who embark on this therapy, the pain for me was not only worth it, but saved my life entirely.
