My therapist recommended that I begin EMDR since my current therapy doesn't seem to be helping me very much. Has anyone tried EMDR? What were are your thought about it? What should I expect? xx

There is a really good thread on here that is a question and answer with an emdr therapist. If u do a search it should come up.

I have done a lot of EMDR this past
1 1/2 years. Although difficult I am amazed how it has helped me process some of my trauma. Make sure she is well trained in EMDR and you have a support system. It's important to ask questions and voice your concerns before you start. It's not an easy fix-it can be hard at times but I am happy I did it.

If you have had multiple traumas, I would be really wary of EMDR. It seems to work quite well with people who've only had one trauma, but not recommended for people who've had multiple traumas. I've had several therapists and psychs and none of them ever even brought it up with me. There are other therapies for that. I'm going to be trying Accelerated Resolution Therapy with my T. She's doing the training and certification this weekend. There's also Thought Field Therapy. These all involve tapping on accupressure points in the body which are thought to help heal the traumatized brain. Like everything, though, it feels worse before it gets better.

Hi, ive been doing emdr with my therapist for approx 6 months and have seen some success in that i was able to recount a memory without the usual discomfort. I still have work to do as i still have flashbacks and nightmares and have more difficult trauma to process but im prepared to keep going.
The key for me and my therapist was to ensure i had grounding and self soothing techniques in place before we started as it can be difficult.
As Rosey has said there are some other great threads on here (under therapy) that will provide a good insight.
