I have 2 dogs, a German Shepherd and a Pomeranian. They are not registered therapy dogs but they have saved me many times. My German Shepherd refuses to leave my side when I'm secluded and don't want to talk or move. I have to get up just so she will go outside or eat. Everytime I move around in my chair, she perks up to check on me. My little Pomeranian has a unique ability to stare at me or hall ass across the room and jump on my lap, which usually puts a smile on face. My biggest fear is if something happened to one of them, it would be my demise.

I have combat PTSD, and a "California Assistance Dog." The dog goes everyplace with me; a 100 lb black female German shepherd looking dog. She protects me by keeping people at several arms length, simply because of her size and breed. I like to sit with my back to the wall, and she sits in front. In California you can get service dogs licensed by the County, no charge, with not too much trouble, after which you are home free....can bring her anyplace you feel like, except the operating room of a hospital, or a zoo.

Highly recommend a big dog for PTSD suffering people. Have had mine for 12 years.

That's the story in California, where they issue an assistance dog tag, brass, about as large as a police badge. Huge...! But it is free, replaces the regular dog license, and is proof positive that the dog is a service animal.
