Eye Sight Has Gotten Better

Got my drivers license renewed today and took the vision. My last license had a vision restriction: must wear corrective lenses while driving, past 4 years. No longer. I passed the eye exam with flying colors; no restrictions.

In June my left eye was suffering from iritis (painful inflamed iris) due to auto-immune system “freak-out” cause by severe and chronic sciatica nerve pain and muscle cramping.

Had my eyes tested after surgery in June, they were OK, only a little worse. Now they’re better. Maybe it’s wearing my eye patch? I don’t know what else it could be. Mostly been wearing it on the right, since my left eye is weaker.

I will now re-double my efforts at wearing my eye patch on the right eye, since the left is still weaker, but better than it has been in years. It appears somehow my right eye is now 20-20 again. At 53 am very pleased by this.

That is great!!!! I always appreciated my sight and was really hurt when it started to fade with age. I'm so happy for you. :thumbs-up

Congratulations James!

I am so happy for you. Sounds like everything is going really well for you. It is a reflection of your hard work and you deserve the best!

OMG James! I think it's from the EFT! Lots of people who do EFT on a regular basis have reported their eyesight getting better with time, people have gotten rid of their glasses, gone down in prescriptions, etc and this is without even using EFT specifically on their eyesight, it's just because they're tapping- I'm so happy for you, this is great, you really deserve it.

That's great James. Very happy for you and extremely proud of your hard work!

Hi James,

I experienced numerous visual distortions post trauma which were initially put down to everything from hallucinations to flashbacks. I eventually found my way to a Psychologist with a neuroscience background / speciality in vision. By this time my depth perception was poor / I could not go downstairs without holding on to a rail and placing two feet per step.

I had difficulty with contrast so was always looking for something that might be in view to others. I had to park in the same place when I went shopping otherwise I could not find my car. I cringe now to think about my driving, it was so bad. When I looked at a computer screen letters were constantly shifting / moving.

By far the worst symptom was how I reacted in crowds. I experienced such panic. I know now the issues I was experiencing with depth contributed to how I struggled in crowds. I feel a bit angry because the therapy team I see put these symptoms down to psychological issues and therefore directed their treatment along this stream. I had been an avid hiker too having trekked various locales around the world and my inability to hike was put down to social isolation vs. physical issues / my inability to manoeuvre hills.

I made notes when I met with the neuroscience individual so I am quoting her but may be off slightly regards accuracy.

"I know that the visual cortex has been implicated in ptsd in such that sensory processing seems to be enhanced when it comes to visual processing. So something about the way vision is being processed may change after a stress-related event which may be due to changes in the plasticity mechanism. Traumatic short term events may induce short term sensory neuronal plasticity and then coupled with the changes in the amygdala response could lead to long-term change in sensory processing."

I eventually found a treatment called Irlen therapy. I won't go into details about the therapy as it can be googled. I have been using the lenses full time for the past year. In the last few months I have been able to go back to my regular prescription about 60-70% of the time. I went to a movie theatre this week and watched a flick no lenses. I too have lost the vision restriction I had on my driver's license. I need bifocals which I accept as a natural feature of aging. I am physically active again, not hiking but heading there. No problems on stairs. And no more panic attacks in crowds.

I think there are therapies out there to help with vision and I am glad you posted your experience with EFT / patching. I wish I had known about this when I was struggling. I think sometimes that when we enter the mental health domain, suddenly practitioners forget we can have physical issues too. There is sometimes a bit of tunnel vision when it comes to treatment.

In any event, I ended up with the right treatment for my issues and clearly you too have been helped. I am so glad for you. Cheers.

WHOA James! That is awesome! I hate to fall into kid-speak but am surrounded by it. Seems appropriate in this case! :)

Thanks for the awesome support everyone, and CM, thanks for the informative post.

There's some interesting information on adrenaline and sensory processing, too. The Wiki on Adrenaline seems pretty complete, and I found out it's a hormone, and neurotransmitter. The way adrenaline effects sensory input/processing makes perfect sense, in relation to it's original fight or flight function. FYI and thanks again.

That is so wonderful James! I to have passed the vision test for driving for the first time in my life but...mine was for another reason. I had Lasik Eye surgery. You see I have had to wear glasses since I was 10 months old (you read it right, 10 months old). I was always picked on when I was a child and as an adult because my glasses were pretty thick. I finally had the Lasik surgery and it fixed my right eye by 90% and my left eye by 80%! It was like a miracle. It raised my self esteem greatly!!! Now I ony need glasses for reading due to the aging thing. I went from a +6 lense to a +.5 lense!!!!!!!!!! So happy!!!

That's terrific NIKI! Have heard many wonderful things about Lasik Eye surgery. So glad to hear this and thanks for sharing. :thumbs-up
