I think it should be looked at as a learned behavior. If a child is brought up and throughout his whole childhood he see's the father figure as an angry man then he might believe that its ok and thats the way it should be. The same goes with hypervigilence.
And Alan, lets take a child from your youth, a child from the Bronx, a child from Sydney, and a child from the bush here in Australia, and you will have four totally different children with totally different beliefs. Put them all through the same basic military training, let say Marines, and send them all to Afghanistan. I wonder if any would end up with PTSD.
