It's is really reassuring to see others go through this as well, I go through being mildly depressed most of the time, and then suddenly I am plumetting and the suicidal planning kicks in. I try not to listen to the thoughts, to focus on seeing the positive things in my day no matter how small.
On my last episode I realized in therapy how much I contribute to my depression with my self hatred and self talk, that I am triggered by some feeling of rejection and before long I am out of control and in a really bad place, and my self talk keeps me there.
