Col, good post. The bullshit in the service is nothing new. I remember my Dad and how he busted his ass for his Chief rocker and just got passed over every time. When my Dad raged, he kept it well bottled, until he got home, usually after a good stint at the NCO club. Learned what avoidance was at an early age.

When I enlisted, I recognized it from being around the Air Force all my life. There seemed to exist two layers. The top layer was the career officers and NCOs, and then the old timers that just cruised along and tried their best to not be bruised , battered and beaten by the career guys. Those guys were the one's that stepped forward and took the tough jobs.

They were the one's with the worst PTSD. They were the one's that flew through hell on more than one occasion. One fellow stands out. Msgt. Was aboard the first C-130 to ditch at sea. After the aircraft nose caught down, the bulkhead broke off and he had to swim through a jagged crack to swim to the surface. He was the only one to make it out.

He told his story to everyone that asked about it, but you could tell he was uncomfortable doing so.

I dunno. Don't know whether this contributes to full blown PTSD or not. The unappreciated putting their shoulder to that sharp, jagged wheel and pushing it through hell, when someone else gets the credit. Growing up in the Air Force, I saw the change for the worse.

But I'm optomistic. Today's Air Force is more professional, efficient and no-nonsense. The layer may still exist, but it's much more blurred. Rock on, young folks, rock on.

Warriors ~ Nice site, well done! Career Military, OIF, mTBI+++++, Harassed final 12 mos by SES Civilian supervisors, Spent final 6 mos in Trauma Recovery Program @ Walter Reed, Retired last year, Still waiting on VA claim 365+, Attend Group with battle buddies that are family. Now I'm focused on being an advocate & sharing lessons learned. Too many warriors have to learn the same lessons others already suffered through mostly because priorities prevent Crats (bureaucrats) from effort & committment of support. My Goal: Network with combat wounded, prevent as many suicides & broken families as possible and educate supervisors & caregivers of wounded warriors.

Go get the Crats!!

Hate to tell ya, Vtown, you don't go after crats. Crats are eels heavily coated in pork fat, heavily surrounded by concertina wire, electrified. Don't believe me, google VA employee and sit back, you'll have a lot of reading to do.

When it got down to the "them" button or the "me" button, I pushed the "me" button and walked away. I want nothing to do with them, avoid them at all cost as they have unlimited employees and budget and they can and do do anything they want and get away with it. (James Bond secretly emulates VA employees when no one is watching).

It sounds like I'm joking, I'm not. I've been in this forty plus years round and round with them and they can, and will make you one miserable person.

I did not mean to take anyone's struggles with the VA lightly, it was a good humored joke.

No sweat, Vtown, I pop off like that all the time and the folks here are kind enough they don't tell me to shut my yap. I really, really have been trying to shut up about it. You have to realize I speak only of the folks out here in Az., and your VA could be completely different.

I've heard great things about all the Ca. VAMCs. I've heard folks on here say the same. Just my experiences.

Sarg,
In Connecticut, we have our fair share of problems with the VA. I have been denied for every claim that I put it but I refuse to give up. You have earned the right to pop off anytime you like. The only problem I have is that I plan on retiring to Arizona within the next 10 years so I hope they get their VA shit together by then!!
