This one happens to be related to email and computer.......

Clearly, unrelated to Ptsd and so here goes nothing in this chat general section. That's the thing though, it doesn't really feel like nothing to me, bc of my confusion, and inability to understand this.

Question:

Does anyone know how on earth I could possibly receive an email advertisement solicitation in my outlook express from exactly my email address to this same address. (letter for letter, capital for capital) Exact! ???

Now I've emailed myself in the long past, simply to see if my such account and software was again working properly.

But this is crazy, and I can't figure it out besides to think that somehow a hacker remotely accessed my computer and emailed me an ad (of course it's sexual by nature, go figure and in one way indirectly, yet another directly related to a past trauma).

The other possibility I consider is that somehow while browsing the internet online, maybe......though it's very hard to believe, as my children have little to no opportunity to make such an error, or perhaps funny hee-hee, haha attempt to click anything that might prompt an ad to be emailed to me and from me. Whatever, I do not know, but I do know I've got some good computer security, so what's this sh't?

Another thing that bothers me about it is the topic of such ad and the supplement in which it's marketing.

glad of the thread too as I have some questions none of which I can think of right now.

i dont really understand what it is you have had...well actually I think I do, as in the past have had some stuff the same (in freaking me out) sent to my email account at my service provider internet account...I dont use it anyn more at all as too much spam was coming to me and no-one had my email addy there.

It was random email shit and sent to anything that in someway refused or anything..
I now have a completely seperate acount...
My brother said to set up different accounts for different things until I know that the person or company is genuine ...so I never give out my own safe email that I correspond with my son on.

I have read that this has no cookies enabled site so therefore anything hacking into my laptop shouldnt be able to back track to any information I have left on here. And it says when I logg out that it has wiped the cookies also...


I know that some sites to enable use...like other public friendship sites are enabled to fish your info so they can work...but you have to allow them to do that.

if I go on one...I have just the basic setup to be able to talk to others instead of signing up for other programs that run from it and thereby giving them access to my laptop's memory.....and anything I wouldnt want anyone else to see or know.

It shouldnt be able to access anything that you have written here...
and while it may seem particular to any traumas ...and I can really relate to that (my ex had some nasty stuff that he subscribed to and I used to get his shit unsolicited- but that was when I still had his comp. and before I knew that something was up with him proper.) ....

it might be just the fact that those sites are promoting this stuff and when you for instance reply by refusing...you open up to them knowing they have hit a real email addy and then you get more.

REmember a lot of those sites it is the only way they can get business....as no-one necessarily looks for them...although there are some that do......it is a lot of hit and miss with them.

Half the time the only way those sites get responses is by just flooding the web and waiting to see what replies....and by reply I dont mean you have accepted it...just by opening it ...you can have done that....I OPEN NOTHING that is unsolicited or from a stranger

Ignore and delete anything you dont recognise or know who sent it.
That is what I do....it never even gets a chance to be opened and
if you can stop pop-ups all the better because sometimes they work through those....I have it that they have to ask permission to be able to open ...its a bit of a pain but it can help stop unwanted stuff too.

oh and I go for an offbeat name when setting up an email account also...less likelyhood of it being randomly hit on. And when I give it out to one person...

if I start getting weird crap through it I know and can advise that person that they have a problem or cut the email addy. loose.

it is a hassle but it cuts out all the crap getting through

oh and I never use outlook express for email..I have no reason for this except I just dont

I don't think so either fin. Most of the time, if not all, I don't even really care if it did or does! In fact, I've gone through a good part of my life, thinking ahead and envisioning worse considered possible scenario's in advance, not only as prevention, but also as to mentally problem-solve the conflict and internal resolve within myself, even before problems and/or conflicts may ever exist.

And, so I've done this in the past. Not so much here in the last couple yrs., but have mostly concluded so what, I accept it, I just have this one worry that remains, but I'll deal with that when I cross that bridge. So, I feel good and without most worries as to whom may one day see anything in which I write.

Most of those who might read whatever I've written, if they have the time and precious energy to attempt to somehow exploit it, then I tend to think: poor, lowly creatures, and then I'd deal and manage within.
However, I tend to know that I'm not that important, and in this day and age, I imagine that people even if they had such deranged ambitions as to pull some trash or exploit, wouldn't even have the time. Too much internet information is too much internet information and can be no more then a burden, as I see it. And, mostly that's all it would be is anonymous info. about an anonymous person.

But, even if it turned out one day to be family of origin that read about me within this forum, well fine then. It would be about f'n time they renew their memory, perhaps broaden their knowledge and views and expand their minds enough to even consider hearing of or knowing of my once reality, as well as, my then and now perspective upon it all.

I'm going on here........, so I'm stopping myself in this direction and now.

This I learned the hard way after a great deal of internet browsing upon a computer that had no additional software to wash and delete all cookies and temp files and no security features. Fortunately I didn't do much private anything online, but none-the-less that computer is now garbage after a life of about 3 short yrs. and only 1 of which was online.

That's it fin! I don't even do this generally. It pisses me off about the effort that may've gone into manipulating me into opening up such a solicitation for advertising supplements for penis enlargement. What tricked me into opening it was that I saw the who from listing and it reads from our address. What pisses me off now is that I even clicked upon the bar that allows me to view blocked images, bc it wasn't until I did so that I even knew what the email was, or that it was an adver. The whole damn' email was images and the tiniest lettering of nosense prior to choosing to click allow images.

My blindness, my mistake. Pisses me off. And, I still don't understand how there can be another identical email address as mine. -advertis. from me to me, ya' sure, how is that accomplished, go figure.

From what I understand Hope, a script is written so that when you receive the email it picks up your email address.....if you look into the message details (the path) it doesn't actually come from your address. Geeks are becoming clever and a lot of what now happens is automated through computer programs and written software.

Anthony was just saying that on the news they were talking about overseas hackers working out how to attach viruses to software you download for mobile phones which then signs you up to charges to your mobile account. The charges are only small - 30 cents, 90 cents, but when you apply that across millions of people they are making a ton of $$$$$. It hasn't reached Australia yet but it will only be a matter of time.

Hi there!
I have a question; I would like to be able to save some threads and posts etc. from the forum to be able to re-read, when I am in difficulty.

I have tried to save them to my favourites on my browser but that is in a real mess, and very confusing to sort out at the moment. And not terribly practical for finding things again, as in having to go in and out, over and over from my browser search.
I can do it when I am ok...just not so much when I am in trouble. My concentration tends to be very off, and I forget what it is I could even be looking for to start with. And then again I get sidetracked very easily and staying on point becomes so much harder to do.

And one I have pasted into my Diary (thankyou again Becvan), the thing is doing that isn't so good as it will again become difficult to find. And of course the whole doubling up thing...and it also takes from my diary and from someone elses's thread/post to do that.

so I am wondering about subscribed threads, etc. I don't actually know what they are or how to set them up, or even if they might be what I am looking for to help me with this.

I really think and feel that I need to be able to do this as when I start going down and know I have read something that would be good to re-visit...I find it really hard to even be able to think of thread connections etc to be able to do a search and find that advice or encouragement again. Oh, and it isn't necessarily that it has been left for me-or I would search my threads etc.

Any ideas gratefully appreciated. Thankyou

:hello:fin, at the top of every page within a thread you'll find the grey menu bar horizontally across. Select the second option: Thread Tools, & click.

Select Subscribe to Thread & click.

Here you will find two drop down menu chooses: The top is notification type. I always choose No email notification, but if you click the down arrow on the drop down menu you'll have other chooses as well.

The other choose below is titled: Folder As long as Subscriptions appears in that window, I simply click the Add Subscription button even further below. There is however another option titled My Threads there within the drop down menu. I'm guessing that the purpose of this is to make for easy access to and follow your own threads. Personally, I simply do this from my statistics tab within my profile page.

Once, I've selected Add Suscription with Subscriptions appearing in the window, something appears upon the screen moments later stating: A subscription has been added.

This subscription can be found and accessed simply by clicking on the User CP button at top of page when all threads are closed; You know the bar where you have chooses to click User CP, Blogs, FAQ, Members List, Calendar, New Posts, Search, Quick Links, Log Out.

Click User CP and there you are, viewing your Subscribed threads in the top window. And, you may want to peek at the bottom right hand corner of such window to see the option to View all subscribed threads, so as to not overlook and miss viewing all your subscribed threads.

So when you're reading and you want that important info. available to you within a couple clicks, and/or to make sure you continue following another's thread simply subscribe and then upon logging into forum, click User CP and view all subscribed threads in which you can access from there.

Thankyou though, trying to get more organised and prepared for when the crap hits big time again. I guess maybe the only preparation is to keep going and going, constantly and daily. It is just so impossible when it hits in and I have no-idea how to think straight. I have the big lining paper thing I did. so maybe use that in some way again also
