Hee hee. Yes I've heard that from many a Dane......Right after they ripped me off on a business deal.

I've also heard if you are not Dutch you are not much.
America is the best country on earth.
Viva La France.
Rule Britannia, Britannia Rule the waves.
Viva La Mexico
Deutsch-land Uber Alles.

Only people who don't seem to care about all this is Belguim. Center of the EU and most people there could care less. Smoke em if ya got em. I love that place.

I actually like the French. The main issue is that people go there and try speaking to them without even trying the local language. This is an issue with both brits and the americans. Take a phrasebook and watch them change. I mean if a french man showed up to manhattan and spoke french at you in an insulting way you would be rude too... I have had no such issues using my GCSE french. Also its cultural, the french tend to stand close together and talk softly. Americans and brits tend to stand far apart and yell quite loudly. Not to mention the tourist habit of taking photos in public places. To the french a restaurant meal is somewhere you go to have a private and above all quiet meal with conversation. Not to see people run around being daft on holiday. Its the same in every country. I used to live in Prague, which had a reputation of being a party capital. The locals hated british tourists since they usually came for stag dos. I used to get some of that flak until they realised I lived there and did things like them. The worst insult was a birthday. I had an exam that morning so we had no proper plans. So me and a friend decided to just go out for a quiet pint or two and some pool. One thing led to another and we got abducted by czechs (the drinking ettiquete is different there. You meet people while drunk as equals. All men are equal in the eyes of beer the national religion.) who insisted that on my birthday we should do english things. Que insane drinking and a trip to a brothel where they "paid for a birthday present which i had to politely decline". The girl was so amused because she had never seen a brit turn down sex. I was incredibly insulted and then realised that's what british people are like there. That people are basically good but spoilt due to misunderstandings of culture. Its like how the indians think brits are promiscuous despite having a higher birth rate and a higher teen pregnancy rate. There is a values dissonance and keeping your mind open is essential.

Most people are proud of their countries. I am proud of being british. I think its the nicest place on earth and that I can be critical of it as well. I am not a fan of the current government's attitude and I am not a fan of the love of bureacracy that we have. I cannot whinge about the casual racism of belgium which is absent in the UK but I can say that I think that if we put the entire EDL and BNP into a giant bag and just beat them with sticks, the UK will be a better place.

(I am brown - half tamil, quarter khmer, quarter scottish. I am kind of tired of hearing about how "I am foreign and not british" from the BNP and EDL and that I don't contribute to society. Last time I checked I held a job that's productive and have paid taxes while most of them are scum who claim that if we were at war they would join up to serve on the front lines. Well we are at war. I didn't see any of them do anything but wave flags and complain about blacks, eastern europeans and pakis who for the most part are quiet and hard working.)

Wagon did you get your application for citizenship where you are at. What happens to Americans over there I thaught we were assholes everywhere. I just can't figure out why so many people want to move to the U.S. with no democracy. I guess we f*ck up but at least we are out there trying. I think all the countries should just have a group hug atleast the alies that are sacrificing young men for the cause and hope that a terrorist doesn't run in and blow them up. I started this silly shit a long time ago with my comments it just doesn't end like I said can't we just agree to disagree. I still do not agree with somebody who would say something like a taliban soldier getting on this forum especially when the majority of veterans have thier combat exprience fighting muslim extremists and they watched thier budies die and they loose thier families to PTSD. There are different types of PTSD like rape, carcrash, and combat. Combat differs from the other two in that you are conditioned for it and you wait just like standing in the door on a jump and then it happens and it goes on and on the war doesn't stop for you to gather your bearings. The anxioty and adrenaline just build in antisipation of the first fire fight or the sniper that might pick your number. Then what we took part in comes back to haunt us over and over the war never ends. 6 months a year in combat is an adrenaline rush pretty much the hole time but it is the equivalent of the average joe's hole life. So here is a toast to all my friends and alies that picked up a weapon and faught for freedom, and greed or any other reason that thier goverment sent them. There is nothing like being stuck in a gaurd tower for rotation with 3 other guys and a bounty on your head on the edge of a big city. The tower gets surrounded by 50 give or take women and children with men filling in the empty spots and you know it is going to happen and your praying you don't have to kill the kids. Then something bad happens AK, or RPG and when the dust clears all you are left with are the memories and bodies and then you find out the 1000 shillings bounty is equal to 25 cents. I would have given that pregnant woman a 1$ and another one for the baby. This was hypothetical I was actualy in a 113 tract and it took a 50 cal. to sort it out but the tower sounded neater. My point is that nobody hear that has combat PTSD wants to be in a dumbass arguement. We have a hard enough time argueing with ourselves about going to the store. Alan where you been good to see your post Comrad!

FMG that sounds like a cool heritage sorry that you have to put up with that shit. Your post sounded good for a limme (just kidding) no I liked the way you put it. I deal with racial shit enough my fiance is mixed and so am I. Proving people wrong is all we can do and that doesn't work all the time. Ignorance is bliss. TEX

Number one. All immigrants are assholes in Norway. If your great great grandfather didn't shag the same moose as someone else's great great grandfather you are suspect. It is really quite ironic that there are allot of west coast Norwegians with darker skin because their ancestors shagged Portugeuse and Spanish sailors when they pulled in to take on a load of salted cod. These same people are todays Neo Nazis and complement my wife on her red hair and fair skin and how important it is to have those traits. WTF. All Nazis need to be air dropped naked into Afghanistan or Israel whichever.

Number two. Which argument is more "dumb ass" and I do not think this is an argument as much as a debate.
1. Debating racial labels, discrimination and nationalism.
2. Debating on whether you can go into the store or not and smoking about 10 cigarettes trying to figure it out.

I'll take number 1 any day. Because number 2 seriously sucks. I had a hard time booking a flight to Norway yesterday. I'm dreading the flight. Main reason I take a train these days. I don't know why but Security really freaks me out. Like I'm about to walk into a hail of bullets. I really have to pull myself together.

This is my last post on this thread. I am sorry if it sparked too much heated debate. But to quote myself.

" I think the penultimate statement I was trying to make was that Nationality is a label, not the definitive behaviour or attitude of every single person under that label."

And Tex I never meant this as an attack on yourself or anything like it. We all have things that set us off. And I have to recognize that I can be passive aggressive with some of the things I write or say. I do apologize for that and the stupid Taliban comment.

Peace

Wagon, quit appologizing that is what I was getting at. We all have oppinions but I tried to take the humble path early on and appoligize for my oppinion of the french which hasn't changed hence oppinion. I also see others appoligizing for thier position then I listen to what people write (remember one can always read but to listen with your eyes is a skill most need work on especially me) on here about how f@#$ed up thier lives are for fighting for thier country and these are issues that are not really debatable terrorism, communism, and freedom what ever feels strong in thier heart because our head is to full of clouds. When you end up trapped inside your own war in your head you need to be able to justify what happened and believe in it so it don't eat you up mores than you allready are. That doesn't mean what your goverment sent you to do it is on a personal level (your buddies or ideals what ever it is). I regret that I ever poked at the french. I feel no ill will towards you I just don't like seeing some folks appoligizing for thier oppinion over something that is very dear to them. I wish in some ways I did not have some of the oppinions I do because it makes me no different than the racist I hate. I need to change these things if I am going to take the path of a medicine person (I wouldn't turn away a frenchman if he needed help). I was at a four night jump dance and only made the last three (A winter medicine dance that starts every evening and you jump till next mourning you dance all night take a nap eat sweat eat dinner and jump all night again basically four days of prayer and old songs from singers). I don't ever try to convince anyone to believe in traditional ways. Debating is an arguement of facts and position but when deep feelings are brought in ones judgement is clouded and it doesn't have to be feelings for the topic. I feel resposible for the start of this so called debate and I was tired when I wrote the post I was up from friday mourning till monday night with little sleep so I aloud my physical condition to cloud my feelings and I lashed out for that I truelly appologize. If I am going to expect to post my oppinions on here than I should not get judgemental of others oppinions but I am just a screwed up man and it is hard so don't take my post personal as I will try to not take yours to heart either. Oh Wagon quit using so many big words I hate looking them up. LMAO TEX

Yeah Man,

Good post Tex. Feelings are the difference here. I just learned something. Not bad for an Aggie i must say.

No apologies needed. But it is the bar. So we are allowed to talk shit. Just as long someone doesn't start throwing glasses and spittin on the floor.

wagon.

I've never understood the whole French hate from America, whether I'm at wrestling practice or back when I was in the service, sooner or later some guy would say something disparaging about France. Usually these people A) had never left the country B) had never been to France C) never been in the military.

I love France. I love it! I was stationed in Germany and only visited one day, but was just blown away. You could spend weeks at the Louvre and not see all the art. I saw bullet holes left in buildings from the French Revolution. Their food is incredible, their truckstops make most American restaurants look like grease pits (blown away when at truck stops they have a huge cafeteria where workers will make you fresh hot food, cook it up for you right there, and they keep this incredible apricot marmelade around and their vending machine espresso was better than what I get from coffee shops).

Even if France isn't some military super-power (lest we forget the exploits of Napoleon, the French Resistance during WW2 etc) wouldn't the world be a boring place without its art, music and food? France is absurdly blessed when it comes to those things. I have had crepes in France that were, no lie, better than some sex I've had.

And the historic rudeness of the French? I'll admit I had some difficulty there, especially when I tried to order said crepe from a Frenchman who spoke no English, but here's a fact about Paris. Paris is the most visited city in the world. While I was there I saw sooo many tourists it was ridiculous. Huge groups of Koreans and Chinese, Americans and Germans wandering around, Canadians etc. And the vast majority of these people don't speak French and probably never will learn it (I admit, its not a language that I enjoy speaking) so all these Parisians have to spend every day of their lives dealing with tourists who don't speak their language, visiting their country. Of course it is unfair of them to be rude, but I'll admit, I get sick of all the out-of-towner's visiting my fair city during the Kentucky Derby and that only lasts a short time.
