When I was younger I used to think about WW2 and what the soldiers did with what they had to fight with. It seems like ancient stuff compared to what we used in 'Nam. Now that's what people think about that war. It's normal, technology changes, soldiers don't. I've had the opportunity to talk with the men that served in WW2 and their stories are in a word, incredible.

We're all the same under the skin Brother. It's what makes us what we are. Oh, and I was a Marine that landed in 'Nam during TET '68. Dicey times. Just like now.

The problem with the med's is they only seem to work well for about 3months or so then I am back to trying others as they don't have the same effect anymore. I don't think I am alone on this one either.
So for me the struggle is to find other ways to manage the PTSD and use the meds as a fire fighting tool not as a long term solution for the stress and anger.
I am glad you were able to respond so positively to the meds.

Jimmy,

I saw a documentary about a Marine unit in Afghanistan. In it there was a grunt outside a bunker standing beside the bottom half of a 55 gal. drum. In that drum was burning diesel and shit.

The planes are a little faster, and the artillery is computerized. But, burning shit is still burning shit. So much for technology.

They had drums, fancy. We had MRE boxes with bags lining them. Would break on the way to the burnpit nasty times.

I have told this story before, but a good friend of mine when he was a Platoon SGT was catching some Z's when the platoon was harbored up for the night. Sleeping as lightly as he did, he heard a noise close by went to investigate and sprung a young digger taking a crap just to the side of the track plan for PL HQ. In the morning he got the digger front and centre and grilled him for not using the designated area. He then made him pick up his turd with his spoon and put it in a zip lock bag. The young digger had to carry it in his pack for the rest of the two week exercise. He also re-named the guy 'La Nard'. The Platoon Commander did not agree but did not cross his SGT. Still to this day and the digger having been out of the military for about 6 years, his mates that know still call him 'La Nard'. I still smile about and think if it was in today's Army, it would be called bastardization and would be all over the news.

And just in case you don't know, Nard is slang for crap in Australia.
