Other Functional Neurological Disorder

I also have FAD after injuries, there are tics and difficulties with walking; helps physiotherapy, simple breathing pauses and regular meetings with a psychotherapist-neurologist, so I want to say: the symptoms are real, but the nervous system can be trained, they can be alleviated, You’re not alone, thank you for the topic.

FND appears to be a catch all for neurological symptoms that have an unidentified cause or no detectable physical manifestation. In the literature I have read PTSD is included under the FND umbrella. I have been diagnosed with it. I have also been diagnosed with spinocerebellar ataxia type 8 through genetic testing. Only somewhere between 300 and 3,000 people have SCA8 in the US. For 23 years my PTSD symptoms were thought to be part of the SCA8 but that is another story. I have only had one doc who has ever seeen another patient with SCA8 and she is out of UCLA and is the top doc on it in the US. She says I definitely have SCA8. The neurologist who diagnosed me with FND bid so because my MRIs showed no structural change to the brain. However the doc at UCLA says that common in SCA8 cases. Confusing, yes. I think I have SCA8 and PTSD. Most of my symptoms are from PTSD. I also have Central Sensitization which is common for people who suffered childhood trauma. Central Sensitization magnifies the perceived pain intensity and it can also make you very sensitive to chemicals like medications (that’s me).
