Gaba for anxiety?

I don't know anything about it but I noticed a few threads about it here.
Search the forum a little bit and you'll find them. :)

I tried GABA for sleep, and found that if I took enough to actually get me to sleep, I'd wake up a couple hours later shaking, sweating and vomiting violently. Just because something is labeled "natural" does not mean that it is safer or healthier. That said, I know people who have experienced immense benefit from taking GABA. It's like any medication - effectiveness varies, proceed with caution.

I take pharmagaba from thorne. I started to take it at daytime to lessen anxiety. And at night to sleep deeper.
It helped me a lot. I only take it at night now. The last thing I do before going to bed.

My background: I get easily effected by medicine, caffeine etc. I can sleep for many hours but almost never deep.

My non ptsd friends have tried it without results. I felt it directly

I have been on GABA for about a week now and I can feel a big difference. I can see why non-anxious (non-disordered) people wouldn’t feel a difference as it just pulls me back toward the center so to speak. Apparently GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, hence why it’s so calming, whereas other neurotransmitters are excitatory (seratonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, etc).....

That is right. GABA is an inhibitor.

May I ask what changes if any you have no...

I haven’t noticed anything in terms of tinnitus but it may be a matter of simply not noticing. I’ll try to keep a watch on my tinnitus to see if I notice any differences.

In terms of sounds in general, I’m not as sensitive to certain frequencies anymore. I hope this continues to improve.

I’m sick right now so it’s not the best time to make an assessment! Lol.

Has anyone noticed a difference between GABA and pharmagaba?

I just got off depakote valproic acid last month. I didnt know it increased GABA. I was on 1500mg for my TBI hypersensitivities. The stuff is harsh on liver.

I am going to ask my doc about GABA and 5HTP since he told me something about using magnesium for headaches.
